I and others in the United States must stand with Melissa Hernandez and her vision of a free, democratic, and pluralistic Afghanistan, where women and men of every ethnic and religious background enjoy equal rights.
I and other voters in our community in the US strongly oppose @aishabbwahab’s advocacy of diplomatic normalization and economic engagement with the Taliban, a terrorist group that has institutionalized gender apartheid, erased women from public life, and allowed Afghanistan to become a sanctuary for international terrorism.
The people of Afghanistan deserve freedom and dignity, not policies that risk legitimizing their oppressors. Our democratic values and national security must never be sacrificed for deals with terrorist groups like the Taliban.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
After reviewing private polling, the data has revealed that the CA-14 election is neck and neck. With just 16 days until Election Day, our community has decided that now is the time to ACT. Accordingly, we have launched our coalition:
“We are a broad coalition of Afghanistani-American communities united to elect Melissa Hernandez and defeat Aisha Wahab.”
We have come together to organize and elect Director Melissa Hernandez, and to expose and unseat Aisha Wahab, who, by her own words, has betrayed the American people, specifically veterans and their families, and, by extension, Afghanistani women and the majority of the country who are resisting the Taliban.
We ask all Afghanistani-Americans and Americans to join us by promoting our media and tagging Melissa, contributing directly to her campaign, and engaging and organizing with us to ensure Melissa’s victory and the ousting of Aisha Wahab from her seat in Congress.
We have just 16 days. The time to ACT and JOIN us is NOW.
This platform is our official address. All demonstrations, events, and media announcements will be communicated through this platform.
This is a central address for all of us. Tag us in your posts so we can distribute them from here.

Commander Saleh Muhammad Registani, a senior military figure in the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has returned to the country after several years.
He fought the Soviet invasion and occupation in the 1980s and the Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorist groups in the 1990s. Today we published his video message from inside Afghanistan. The resistance against terror and tyranny continues, and it is growing by the day.
Since 2021, the people of Afghanistan, our neighbors and regional countries, and the international community have given the Taliban chance after chance to change course. They have wasted every one of them. At the same time, geopolitical shifts in the region and around the world have created conditions that has made the demise of the Taliban inevitable.
The NRF is therefore intensifying its efforts and pursuing a clear strategy for the liberation of Afghanistan. Our goal is a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Afghanistan where all citizens are treated equally, whatever their gender, ethnicity, religious belief, or background. We want an Afghanistan free of terrorism and at peace with itself and its neighbors, a country that can become a source of security, stability, and prosperity for all its neighbors and the globe at large.
After more than a century of war, oppression, extremism, and tyranny, Afghanistan deserves a new chapter of freedom, peace, democracy, and dignity for all its citizens.

Yesterday, I had the honor of participating alongside the leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, @AhmadMassoud, in the Second European Conference of Ventotene for Freedom and Democracy, a European Union conference held in Ventotene, Italy. Mr. Massoud joined virtually, while I participated in person in a special session titled “Liberating Afghanistan”.
In our remarks, we emphasized that Afghanistan’s struggle for freedom and democracy is part of the broader global struggle against authoritarianism, extremism, and terrorism. Mr. Massoud reflected on the 25th anniversary of the assassination of his father, the late Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, and recalled his historic visit to the European Parliament in 2001, when he warned of the growing terrorist threat and presented his vision for a democratic Afghanistan where women and men would enjoy equal rights.
During my intervention, I stressed that Europe must remain faithful to the values upon which the European project was built and truly demonstrate that it remains a beacon of democracy and human rights. At a time when democratic values are under increasing pressure around the world, Europe should not retreat from them. I argued that engagement and normalization with the Taliban, a genocidal terrorist group that has systematically deprived women of their most basic rights and dismantled Afghanistan’s political and civic freedoms, is neither a moral nor a sustainable policy.
We also stressed that the continuation of a Taliban-occupied Afghanistan will only worsen the migration crisis confronting Europe and the wider region. As long as the people of Afghanistan face repression, insecurity, economic deprivation, and the denial of their fundamental freedoms, many will continue to be forced to leave their homeland. A liberated, stable, and democratic Afghanistan would address the root causes of this forced migration by creating the conditions for people to live with dignity, security, opportunity, and hope in their own country.
Europe must therefore stand with the democratic forces of Afghanistan, support those struggling for freedom, and remain a defender of human rights and, particularly, women’s rights. The people of Afghanistan deserve the same freedoms and democratic rights that Europeans fought to secure for themselves. A stable future for Afghanistan cannot be built through accommodation with extremism, but through support for a democratic and pluralistic alternative.
The importance of the conference was also reflected in the participation of senior European and international figures, including Vice President of the European Parliament @pinapic, Italian Foreign Minister @Antonio_Tajani, European parliamentarians and officials, as well as high-ranking figures from other democratic countries and prominent democratic opposition leaders and human rights advocates from around the world.
Ventotene itself carries profound symbolism. It was here, during one of Europe’s darkest periods, that the ideas behind the Ventotene Manifesto were conceived and a vision for a free and democratic Europe took shape. That history reminds us that even when authoritarianism appears dominant, democratic ideas and determined people can ultimately prevail. The same must and will be true for Afghanistan.
I extend my sincere gratitude to Vice President @pinapic for hosting this important conference and for inviting Mr. Massoud and me to be part of it. She has demonstrated through her words and actions that she is a true defender of democracy and a steadfast friend of those struggling for freedom against authoritarianism and extremism. At a time when democratic values are increasingly challenged, voices such as hers within Europe are more important than ever.

Ahmad Shah Massoud: the man who foresaw 9/11
A citizen of Afghanistan of Tajik heritage, Massoud was the enigmatic warrior who resisted the Soviets, the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. So why didn't the US back him? By Kamal Alam
en.majalla.com/node/332983/p…
Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks against the United States, which took nearly 3,000 innocent lives. Yet the fight against the forces behind 9/11 began years earlier in Afghanistan.
For more than five years before the attacks, the internationally recognized government of Afghanistan, led by the late President Burhanuddin Rabbani and its Defense Minister, the late Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, was fighting the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Commander Massoud repeatedly warned the international community about the growing terrorist threat. He was assassinated by Al Qaeda on September 9, 2001, just two days before 9/11.
Today, we risk repeating the same mistakes. Afghanistan has once again been pushed aside while terrorist organizations have regrouped and expanded their presence. The consequences are already being felt across the region, particularly in Pakistan, and if this threat is ignored, future attacks planned from Afghanistan could once again reach far beyond its borders.
On this solemn day, we remember and honor the victims of 9/11, their families, and all those who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism. The greatest tribute we can pay them is to learn from the failures of the past. Terrorism ignored does not disappear. It grows. Twenty five years later, the world must not make the same mistake again. @Sept11Memorial

Commander Massoud was my friend, I was an advocate for the Northern Alliance. When he was assassinated, I knew Al-Qaeda had done it because Massoud would have been our best partner inside Afghanistan for a counter attack if there was a terror plot on our soil. Earlier that year in Doha, I was warned that a major terrorist attack was coming, and the signal of its imminence would be a major event inside Afghanistan. When he was killed, I knew we were in danger and asked for an emergency meeting with Condoleezza Rice. The appointment was set for the afternoon of September 11th.

The First U.S. State Capital Declares Ahmad Shah Massoud Day
On the 25th anniversary of the martyrdom of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the National Hero of Afghanistan, the Massoud Foundation USA is proud to announce that Sacramento, California has become the first state capital in American history to proclaim September 9, 2026, "Ahmad Shah Massoud Day."
I thank Mayor McCarty and the people of California for honoring him. Twenty-five years after his death, Massoud still gives the people of Afghanistan hope and an example to follow. His memory lives in the resistance to the Taliban and in ordinary people across society, inside the country and in exile.
It says something that a country as divided as ours, with all its rifts and competing agendas, can still pause and come together around one man. His worth was never fully cherished inside Afghanistan while he lived, nor by the international community until it was too late.
Commander Massoud, our beloved Amer, fought a lonely war against international terrorism and was the first victim of 9/11. His fight was never for Afghanistan alone. He fought to keep Al-Qaeda and the Taliban from reaching innocent people far beyond our borders, from New York to the capitals of Europe.
After warning the European Parliament and Washington that a massive attack on the United States was being planned, he was assassinated two days before 9/11. He had written, "I don't know how much longer I can hold out against them… If they kill me, then you know they are coming. That will be your signal." Two days later, the world received that signal.
Since the takeover in 2021, the Taliban have desecrated his tomb again and again. Even his dust unsettles them. They know Massoud was more than a man. He remains an idea. As he said, "I see a day where guns will be locked in arms depots, and pens will be put to use… That day is not too far off, and I see it coming." The people of Afghanistan will see that day for him, God willing.
Though the Taliban have banned any celebration of him, Ahmad Shah Massoud Day is now marked quietly in homes across Afghanistan, and openly in more cities and on more continents than at any time in the past 25 years, from diaspora gatherings to academic conferences.
The following cities have formally declared and celebrated Ahmad Shah Massoud Day, along with places that have named roads and alleys in his honor.
Sacramento, California (the first state capital to declare)
San Diego, California (four times)
Westminster, California
Frankfurt, Tennessee
Elma, Washington
McKinneyTexas
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Paris, France (Allée du Commandant Massoud)
Reims, France (street named for Ahmad Shah Massoud)
Nice, France
Soon it will be on every continent.
Massoud's spring has yet to blossom.

Sacramento, the capital of California, the most populous state and largest state economy in the United States, has officially declared September 9, 2026, as “Ahmad Shah Massoud Day.” City of Sacramento also has the largest concentration of Afghanistan’s diaspora community in the United States, making this recognition especially meaningful.
On the 25th anniversary of the martyrdom of the late Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, and just two days before the 25th anniversary of September 11, this recognition once again reminds us how deeply connected humanity is. These two events, which profoundly impacted the people of Afghanistan and the United States, are historically and symbolically intertwined through our shared struggle against terrorism and extremism. I thank Mayor @KevinMcCartyCA and the City of @TheCityofSac for this profound honor and for recognizing the enduring legacy of the late Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud.

We are deeply honored that Nice, following Paris and Reims, will honor the late Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, the National Hero of Afghanistan, by naming a place after him. His legacy remains a symbol of freedom, courage, and the struggle against extremism and terrorism.
On the 25th anniversary of his martyrdom, this meaningful tribute reminds us that his sacrifice and the values for which he stood transcend borders. His struggle for a free, democratic, and pluralistic Afghanistan continues to inspire the people of Afghanistan and all those who stand for freedom.
We extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Éric Ciotti for his profound friendship, his unwavering support for the freedom-seeking people of Afghanistan, and his commitment to preserving the legacy of our National Hero. France’s solidarity with our people has always held a special place in our hearts.
Mr. Ahmad Massoud and I look forward to visiting Mayor Ciotti in Nice very soon and thanking him personally for this meaningful gesture of friendship and solidarity.

On 7 September 2026, a commemorative program marking the 25th anniversary of the passing of Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, the national hero of Afghanistan, was held at the United Kingdom Parliament in London. Hosted by Martin Rhodes MP and organized by Glasgow Afghan United, the event brought together a minister from the UK Cabinet, members of Parliament, and speakers from Afghanistan. Many participants delivered remarks reflecting on Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud’s legacy and his vision for an Afghanistan founded on cultural diversity, human rights, equality, and democratic governance. The program also provided an opportunity to recognize his enduring contribution to the political and social aspirations of the people of Afghanistan.
My remarks focusing on Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud’s vision of political and cultural pluralism, democracy, and the equal rights of all citizens. I highlighted the importance of the 1997 Declaration of Principles, which affirmed democratic governance, free elections, political pluralism, and the delegation of authority to elected local administrations. Also, I discussed Commander Ahmad Shah Massoud’s historic endorsement of the Declaration of the Essential Rights of Afghanistan’s Women in 2000, emphasizing his commitment to women’s education, political participation, and the right to stand for public office. I concluded by underscoring the responsibility of future generations to preserve this legacy through education, cultural understanding, respect for diversity, and the promotion of human dignity and equal opportunity. @AbdulBostani2
