I'm a double amputee. I recieve 3,600 a year in PIP @Helen_Whately receives *39,000* a year in housing. If our Hels wants to cut down the welfare bill I've an idea where she should start...
Look at this chart 👇 Many if not most of the children on DLA will go onto PIP. Around half of children who get DLA become NEETs. There’s a clear path from child DLA to PIP to a lifetime on benefits. We must change this.

There’s a lot of talk of getting people in work. But From the 100k+ jobs on the DWPs jobs site… Just 480 are remote Only 29 are remote & Disability Confident That’s what’s facing disabled people. We must tackle the barriers employers put up. Not just demand more of people.

@Helen_Whately does not seem to understand that disabled children become disabled adults. Stunning 👏👏👏

The primary determinant of my 18 yr old daughter's reliance on benefits is her rare genetic condition resulting in profound learning disability, severe physical disability & epilepsy. The severe lifelong disability came before the DLA/PIP award, not the other way round.

When a university says that it's going to 'save money' by 'restructuring', it means that it's going to sack lots of people, nudge lots of people into voluntary severance, and this 'restructuring' is actually going to cost millions.

At what point does somebody ask: Is 60 hours of caring plus paid work safe? 90 + hrs? Who is assessing fatigue? Who is assessing sleep deprivation? Who is assessing whether the arrangement remains safe for BOTH people? Noone @CarersUK @CarersTrust @andyburnham @YvetteCooperMP🪡

Family caring isn't free. SOMEONE IS PAYING. Sometimes with money. Sometimes with a career. Sometimes with retirement. Sometimes with all three.

The wheelchair suitable for my daughter’s needs is £ 3,995. But being disabled doesn’t cost more, and it’s just scrounging to get extra monetary support.

Remember all that bullshit about EHCPs being “golden tickets”? Meanwhile, a friend is having to spend £20,000 on lawyers just to get her disabled son the college placement he so deserves and needs. It sometimes feels as if the non-disabled world has no idea.

There are recruitment freezes due to budget cuts. So we have vacancies, but are mot allowing them to be filled as the government won’t fund the places.

Many Carers handle care on their own. Help is limited, unreliable, or not available. That reality shapes every decision.

Reminder that Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 is a film about three women taking over an office and introducing free childcare, paid vacation, and flexible hours, resulting in a 20% increase in productivity.

In 1988 Dolly Parton pulled every 7th and 8th grader in Sevier County into a room and told them to pick a buddy. She made them sign a contract.. if BOTH graduate, she hands you both $500. One fails, nobody gets paid. The county dropout rate went from 35% to 6%. She handed out the checks herself. In 1989 she offered $500 to every kid in the county who wanted to go to the local college. When Gatlinburg burned in 2016, she sent 900 families $1,000 a month for six months. You've probably heard that part. Here's the part you haven't: The fund raised more than expected, so she showed up in May and handed every one of those families another $5,000 on top. Then she quietly put $3 million into the recovery group that handles the years after the news trucks leave. She built her county an entire hospital. She played a benefit concert in 2007, Dollywood and the Stampede matched it, and LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010 with a birthing unit and a women's center in it. In 2022 she started covering 100% of tuition, books, and fees for Dollywood employees. Full-time, part-time, AND seasonal. In 1991 she paid for a bald eagle sanctuary because the birds couldn't be released back into the wild, no press release. And when Hurricane Helene came through here in Western North Carolina, she wrote a personal check for $1 million and her companies matched it. She didn't owe North Carolina anything, but she helped us anyway. She started the Imagination Library because her daddy couldn't read or write. Before he passed, he told her it was the most important thing she ever did. Rest in Peace, Dolly 🇺🇸

The media really hasn’t learned a thing from the Jeremy Vine episode, and their latest circling of the wagons proves it. They’re still tone deaf to why unpaid carers and disabled people were upset in the first place. They keep framing it as “online outrage” or a “backlash,” instead of acknowledging the real issue: Vine’s programme has repeatedly platformed harmful narratives about disability benefits and carers. People weren’t angry for sport, they were responding to years of being misrepresented, dismissed, and treated as debate fodder. And even after Vine stepped down, the coverage centred his feelings, his impartiality, his sadness. Carers’ concerns were treated like a footnote. This is exactly the problem. The media reports the event, but refuses to report the reason. It hears noise, not meaning. It still doesn’t understand, or doesn’t want to understand, the harm its narratives cause. Unpaid carers and disabled people deserve better than this. They deserve to be listened to, not caricatured. #UnpaidCarers #DisabledRights #MediaAccountability #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

They seem to think it was a 'campaign' out of spite when actually it was a spontaneous & uncoordinated breaking of the camel's back caused by the irony of @theJeremyVine hosting the awards

As a scientist, I often see people misunderstand what a “scientific consensus” really means. It’s not a room full of scientists agreeing. It’s years of independent studies all pointing in the same direction. Consensus means consistent evidence, not collective opinion.
