Powerful M7.0 Earthquake Strikes Tibet | Lives Lost, 2,054 Aftershocks Recorded 🔴 youtu.be/rKIFfkRXJa8 On the evening of October 22, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. The epicenter was in Baqing County in the prefecture-level city of Nagqu. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake’s focal depth was 6.2 miles. The shallow depth and the inadequate earthquake resistance of some rural homes increased the destruction. ❗️ Where the risk of strong earthquakes is high, developing monitoring, early warning, and scientific hazard assessment should be a priority. Equally important are the earthquake resistance of buildings, public preparedness, and the readiness of rescue services — everything that helps save human lives. #allatra #earthquake #Tibet

BeeLab | Microplastics in the Bee Brain ❓ What happens when microplastics get inside bees and even make their way into their brains? In this podcast of the ALLATRA Global Research Center, Professor David Baracchi, Professor of Zoology and Ethology at the University of Florence and head of the Cognitive and Behavioral Ecology Lab (BeeLab), is talking about a new research on how microplastics affect bees. Real-world environmental exposure levels are still difficult to determine precisely, its underlying mechanisms are still being unraveled, and further research is essential to fully understand the long-term impact. Why does this matter far beyond bees? Pollinators play a fundamental role in sustaining biodiversity and our global food supply, and studying them can offer vital insights into how emerging contaminants interact with living systems. 📣 Watch the full interview with Professor David Baracchi to discover what science already knows #allatra #DavidBaracchi #BeeLab #microplastics #nanoplastics #plastic #plasticpollution

Weather forecasts and long-term climate projections start with the same kinds of observations, but they look at the future in very different ways. In this excerpt from the ALLATRA Podcast, Dr. Stephen M. Volz, former senior executive at NASA and NOAA, explains how weather forecasting differs from long-term climate projections. While weather models focus on specific conditions at a particular time and place, climate models examine how broader patterns, such as rainfall, may change over time and how changes in Earth’s energy balance can influence the climate. “Even kids can make a discovery.” In this excerpt from the ALLATRA Podcast, distinguished experimental particle physicist Dr. Michael Albrow recalls an astronomical observation he made as a child and how his observation was published in the Journal of the Junior Astronomical Society. For Dr. Albrow, discovery begins with curiosity: noticing something unusual, asking questions, and wanting to understand why things happen. From watching the night sky to a baby repeatedly dropping a toy as a simple experiment in gravity, he reflects on why nurturing curiosity from an early age matters.
