A personal note from Dipika Damerla A few days ago, we shared a lighthearted video of me having some fun with a parody of a Bollywood song. We changed the lyrics to talk about property taxes and it’s gone viral! A lot of people enjoyed it, laughed along, and understood the spirit in which it was made. To everyone who shared a smile with me, thank you. Others didn't like it. That's okay too. Our differences in opinion are what make a democracy. I'm running for public office, and I know that criticism comes with the territory. This is a pivotal moment in Mississauga to discuss what belonging feels like. Some of the comments became deeply personal, hateful, and hurtful. It is a difficult thing to put one's family through, especially over a video that was meant to make people smile, so that’s why we’ve decided to take the video down. I will always continue to stand up for other people who face racism, hate or any form of discrimination. We live in Mississauga; we celebrate the mosaic of cultures we call home. I believe we should be able to laugh at ourselves, enjoy a lighthearted moment, and celebrate the diversity that makes Mississauga such a special place. I entered this race because I love Mississauga. Families are struggling with affordability, safety, and declining city services. That is why as Mayor, I will bring accountability to City Hall, stop wasteful spending, and set up Mississauga to become a centre of innovation and job creation. That's what my platform is about, and that's where I want our attention to be. To everyone who has reached out with kindness, encouragement, or concern, thank you. It means more than you know. You can make fun of the videos we put out. You can disagree with my politics. But you won't stop me from standing up for the city I love. We have an election ahead of us, and far more important things to talk about. Let's get back to building a City That Works. -- Dipika

Mississauga mayor Carolyn Parrish says Premier Doug Ford is going to fix a longstanding gripe for her city — that Mississauga pays a bigger share of the Peel police budget than Brampton. Brampton mayor Patrick Brown says he’s heard no such thing: thestar.com/news/gta/city-ha…

Extending line 2 makes a ton of sense. A GO train extension is a good long-term aspiration, but the reality is a Subway could be delivered at least a decade earlier and the density 1000% justifies it. That being said it really would need to be engineered for speed....
Later today, I’ll unveil my plan to get #Mississauga moving with smarter, regionally integrated transit! 🚇 I spoke with @alysanmati at The @TorontoStar about one exciting feature of the plan: extending the TTC’s Line 2 subway right into the heart of Mississauga. Vaughan has a subway. Scarborough and Markham are getting one. Why not Mississauga? thestar.com/news/gta/mayoral… #onpoli #cdnpoli

NEW: In a message to supporters Bonnie Crombie says she will “officially register as a candidate for Mayor of Mississauga” on July 14th. Crombie quit the job in 2023 to run and win the Ontario Liberal leadership. Since the 2025 election, however, Crombie has been searching for a new role with little success. Premier Doug Ford has vowed to send in supporters to campaign against her. #onpoli

Absolutely crazy scoop from Jess. And proof that no matter how hard this government tries to keep info secret, journalists are going to keep finding out.
Ontario FOI freeze: Civil servants who process freedom of information requests have been told not to issue any new decisions or seek out new records from the government, according to documentation provided by a source. By @jessiecatherine. #onpoli thetrillium.ca/news/politics…

I've been doing this work a long time but nothing prepared me for what I saw on a recent reporting trip in Somalia. I was there to look into rising food and fuel prices from the war in the Middle East landing atop dramatic cuts to the international humanitarian relief system.
