"Is it ok for teens with mood disorders to use cannabis occasionally?" Large cross-sectional study by @alyshasultan shows that even occasional use of cannabis has adverse clinical correlates--including suicidality--in this population. @camhnews doi.org/10.1016/j.jad.2024.0…

Canada has seen increased accessibility & decreased perceived risk of #cannabis over recent years. What does this mean for youth with #bipolardisorder, a group with high rates of cannabis use & higher risks of using: bit.ly/3ILs0SU #CYBDatCAMH @alyshasultan @CAMHResearch

Our studies have found that cannabis use in teens with #bipolardisorder is associated with differences in brain structure & functional circuits related to reward. It’s not yet clear whether these differences are cause or consequence of cannabis use. #BellLetsTalk @alyshasultan

Spoiler alert: the quick answer is “no”. Teens w/ #bipolardisorder are more likely to develop addiction, & cannabis use in teens w/ bipolar is associated with more severe symptoms & decreased treatment response. bit.ly/3u9KerU #BellLetsTalk @alyshasultan @CAMHResearch
