It has taken almost 7 years to get the first bit of individual accountability for Aliona despite this being “serious misconduct” and yet somehow, we are one of the “lucky ones” to have got this far - so many others who are the same also deserve this. nmc.org.uk/globalassets/site…

This should be in place already. It’s a sad state of affairs that once again, it falls on grieving, campaigning families to fight for change. Aubrey deserved better, Asees deserved the same. Thanks @DadOfAubrey for continuing to speak up for all our babies gone too soon 🤍🕊️
I spoke to @SkyNews about why stillborn babies like Aubrey are denied access to coroners. Parliament acted in 2019. Seven years later: no report, no timetable. One breath should not decide whether a baby’s death can be investigated. @SophyRidgeSky @WilfredFrost @RidgeandFrost

This Baby Loss Awareness Week and always, we remember every baby who has died and stand with every family living with loss 🤍 It has been a hugely significant year for maternity - from the Ockenden and Amos reports published, to the Thirlwall Inquiry, progress towards a National Maternity Commissioner, and new reviews beginning in Leeds and Sussex. Through all of this, lived experience must be at the heart of change. 📢 Next week, a debate on Baby Loss will be held in the House of Commons. Email your MP and ask them to take part on 12th Oct: writetothem.com/ We owe it to every baby lost and every family left grieving to listen, learn and make maternity care safer.

Another day advocating for our babies 🤍🕊️
Families whose babies died or were harmed while under the care of maternity services in Leeds have met with Yvette Cooper. The health secretary says she wants a new national framework of standards to be in place before Christmas. 🔗 trib.al/3czOfd8

A year ago today, families wrote to the Lord Chancellor asking that the then 6½-year-old duty to report was completed. A year later… we have only just secured a meeting. Another year’s worth of stillborn babies denied justice.
Bereaved families have demanded the Government act on “perverse” lack of scrutiny of stillbirths. They want their childrens deaths subject to independent, coronial oversight, and explain there is a legal duty on ministers to act. Link in next post…

“It’s essential for him to take an interest in maternity and women’s health to show it is serious, that he recognises ours and our children’s lives do matter - show it is a national scandal.” @andyburnham @10DowningStreet needs to finally show a commitment to improving services.

This applies to Leeds and right across the country. “It is scandalous that the safety of expectant mothers and new born children has been compromised. They are the most vulnerable in society and as such the NHS should not be putting them in harm’s way.” yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opi…

With thanks always to @RichardBurgon @MarkJSewards for attending. And @FabianLeedsNE @alexsobel for all their support throughout this campaign 🤍
It was humbling to attend the family day launch of the Leeds Maternity Inquiry and meet with some of the women and families who will be taking part in the inquiry. It wouldn’t be happening without the exceptional bravery and determination of Amarjit, Lauren, Fiona and others.

A monumental day at the launch of the maternity inquiry here in Leeds. Grateful forever to my bereavement sisters, @Laurenncaul @FionaWinserRamm. Our beautiful girls would be so proud 🫂🤍 Thanks to @DOckendenLtd and her team for an amazing day 🙏🏽
Bereaved families are currently attending the first meeting ahead of a review taking place into “repeated failures” at maternity units in Leeds. The inquiry is being led by Donna Ockenden who led a similar review in Nottingham.

Still feels surreal that our review is happening. Meeting so many new families today reminded me exactly why this is needed. I am so grateful to the brilliant families I have met along the way, in particular @FionaWinserRamm, @alionasdad, @ambikmatharoo and Mandip. Our girls🩷
