Very important and motivating talk from @mvankerkhove, reminding us that the political will is currently there for increasing genomic surveillance and that we can take advantage of that now for SARS-CoV-2 to be applied to other infectious diseases globally later #ABPHM21

Let’s do this, Michigan.
“Today, I announced the #MIVaccToNormalChallenge, a pathway to gradually get back to normal as we hit our vaccination targets and push toward our goal of vaccinating 70% of Michiganders ages 16 and older. Please, sign up for your vaccine appointment today. Let’s get it done.”

I’m the first scientist in my immediate family. The first to graduate college and the first to get a PhD in STEM. I am honored to #partner with @PBS to help promote a revealing and impactful documentary about women in STEM called ‘Picture a Scientist’.

1/ My take on why COVID-19 cases are falling. As the wise @mtosterholm has said repeatedly, we need more humility in thinking we can easily explain the epidemic's every move. slate.com/technology/2021/02… @FutureTenseNow @Slate @DearPandemic @OxfordDemSci

Almost every case of community spread I am seeing amongst otherwise "careful people" was transmitted over a maskless meal. If you are going to decrease your risk with ONE choice, please stop eating and drinking with people outside your household.

It’s a great day at Michigan Medicine, which received 1,950 doses of the Pfizer Inc./BioNTech vaccine at about 9 a.m. this morning. We plan to begin vaccinating our employees who are most at risk this week.

If you’ve never experienced COVID as a patient/family or HCW/pub health personnel, it’s even more critical to understand the importance in not only prevention, but also support for those around us. These photos serve as a reminder of what could (& should) have been prevented

I reiterate this thread, and this point in particular, in light of the Moderna vaccine news.
Replying to @edyong209
This is the crux of it: The U.S. must flatten the curve again. In the next weeks, we will collectively decide how many Americans die before they can get a vaccine next year & how many health-care workers are broken in the process. /8 theatlantic.com/health/archi…

Outdoor activities are largely safe. Schools can stay open with precautions. Delivery, curbside pickup, and safer shopping are possible. Let's work smarter against Covid. Closures need to be nuanced, well-timed, and adjusted based on experience. But the sooner, the safer.

One feature of being an epidemiologist in a global pandemic: seeing mentors and colleagues pop up all over the media, like my @uwepidemiology doctoral advisor did in the @nytimes newsletter in my inbox this morning.

This quote also highlights one of my favorite things about Dr. Baseman: you can always count on her to keep it real.
