Federal Judge Jesse Furman ruled on Monday that the Justice Department's firing of Maurene Comey, daughter of James Comey, was unlawful and ordered her retroactively reinstated as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York. Comey previously worked on cases against Ghislaine Maxwell and Sean "Diddy" Combs before being fired by the Trump Administration in July 2025. Comey argued she was fired because of her father or her perceived political views, in violation of the separation of powers, the First Amendment, and due process.
