Since we’re doing PhDs being niche discourse, shall we all talk about that time Phil Tufnell read out my thesis title on Test Match Special?

As a society, we really don’t talk about *my* five seconds of fame enough.

Opening up the outfield during the lunch break of an international test is such a vibe, England could never.

Can you IMAGINE the Hollies let loose on the outfield like that?! Or the Western Terrace??

That being said you’d never see a three story beer snake at Basin Reserve. Our culture is beautiful, too.

I have very little to add to the John Prescott tributes, but he once gave me a polite nod, so thanks pal.
saw a familiar face in the street and grinned. he didn't grin back. unsurprising really given it's almost midnight and he was john prescott.

Not seen this before. Really shocking from @dannydorling's 'Seven Children'. Average height of five-year-old boys, 1985–2020

Time for Amy’s biennial book recommendation: Orbital by Samantha Harvey (which I know a lot of people have already read) is very good and filled me with a lot of hope. I am grateful for the wind and gravity now. Perfect for those times you feel desperately in need of perspective.

The real champion of the academic emoji game is the lil’ granny with maracas that only seems to exist in teams. I would die for her.
Was just told by people in the lab that the standard smiley face ":)", when translated into an emoji 🙂, is condescending and sarcastic. Did you other old people know this? The culture is evolving under our feet! Btw, ":)" is apparently cool, as is 😄.

Didn’t get a good photo of the northern lights, but did manage to sort out the exposure settings on my phone in time to take a lovely pic of my scaffolding.

I also realised early on that my phone camera wasn’t going to take a good photo, so I just watched the sky faintly sparkle red.

Had a fairly busy day so could only follow the text commentary, but at least 3 times today I thought “I bet @ZaltzCricket is having fun”, seems so.
It's safe to say it was a record-breaking day! 🤯 #BBCCricket #PAKvENG

2024 UK - Get in there! The Ghost #Orchid (Epipogium aphyllum) is one of our rarest species, and one that doesn’t need an introduction. After 30 years of searching I’m beyond delighted to have chanced upon one @EuropeanOrchids @Mariposa_Nature @BSBIbotany #wildflowerhour

This was always the TERF end game. Privileged white women have too long felt empowered to dictate who is and who isn’t a woman. We have been saying this for years, but it’s time to say it louder. TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN, IF YOUR FEMINISM IS NOT INTERSECTIONAL IT IS NOT FEMINISM.

It's not just that England keep pulling these rabbits out of hats at the end of matches. It's that every time it's a different magician and making it their own personal trick. What a strike from Watkins

“The future won’t be orange but it might be very bright indeed” is some extremely good commentary, fair play.
