There is *a lot* of software that hasn’t been built across hundreds of industries because our best paid designers and engineers were occupied with building social networks and ad networks. "The best minds of my generation are thinking about how to make people click ads." — Jeff Hammerbacher Meanwhile, huge parts of the physical economy were left running on spreadsheets, email, paper forms, ancient desktop software and enterprise systems installed sometime around 1999. They still use it today. Construction. Manufacturing. Logistics. Agriculture. Waste management. Energy. Shipping. Maintenance. Laboratories. Local government. Field services. Industrial equipment. Healthcare administration. The list is endless. A lot of these places were simply too small, too "unsexy" or too expensive to serve with traditional software economics, especially after engineers became one of the best paid career choice. But small teams can now build specialized tools for markets that previously couldn’t justify the best of the best engineering talent. And even further, lets not forget about all the terrible enterprise software out there owned by massive corporations who locked in clients since the late 90s and didn't change a single thing since then. All these companies are completely vendor locked due to switching cost, but that switching cost is slowly disappearing. Maybe I am too optimistic here, but there are entire industries still waiting for their first piece of software that is truly designed for the people using it. The opportunities right now are endless.
I have a feeling the *real* age of software is just about to begin.

I'm officially on a mission from God.
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

This speaks to me
When journalists say "Xbox-Style controllers", they're talking about these: The Freedom of Movement Control Unit (FMCU), which is a universal, clunky, expensive... did I say EXPENSIVE handheld, clocking in at an eye-watering $2,200 per controller Can you build a better one for cheaper? Our nation needs you to.

Zuck wearing some heat… H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Tourbillon Concept
🚨 META JUST UNVEILED THE VR GLASSES 100 grams on your face - about the weight of a deck of cards. Meta says it has “the best display system that we have ever made,” and people in the demo were literally saying “it is like a computer” and “you could edit a whole movie just using the table.” As Mark explained this is cinema, computer, and a game console all in one, with 3D space, virtual screens, hand occlusion, and DisplayPort over USB-C. James Cameron’s reaction is probably the best quote in the whole segment “I’m inspired by what you’ve created. I’d like to see my work in these glasses.” I am completely one shotted these look amazing!

Not a fan of "building in public" culture. You end up creating an average of all loud opinions, burn yourself to mediocrity by pleasing everyone—sacrificing originality. The end result will be made by the people for the people, not by the artist. Feedback is useful if it is objective. It kills if it is subjective. Accept/Ignore either, it will chip away at your conviction. I think a good operating scheme is 95% conviction, 5% feedback. Or may be even 99%. Feedback stands directly in the opposition to artistry in a zero sum balance. More on this: xitter.cf/usgraphics/status/1797…

Since a child, I have always been drawn to shoebox labels. The way that they so effectively communicate pertinent information is just so satisfying. Seeing 40 identical boxes stacked into a wall 3ft in front of you , yet it only takes a few seconds of scanning to find what you're looking for. I have always loved the uniformity of Nike's boxes and labels, so on-brand, satisfying, and well done. Historically, Nike really does have an Apple-esque glow to their world/brand they have created (less so now than ever sadly). Naturally following the Germans' austerity, Adidas is extremely to the point. They even have simple little icons depicting a man, woman, or child. Just goes to show the importance of symbols in information display...
