I was on a call the other night with someone in the West Bank just before Israel forced hundreds out of their homes in Hebron. It's not hard to make direct contacts with people in the West Bank. Hear for yourself what life under Israeli occupation is.
In Hebron, 22-year-old university student Ahmad Imraish describes how Israeli forces forced his family out of their home at gunpoint and demolished it without warning.

This is what we’re up against trying to report on the CFB Wainwright tragedy. On October 18, I asked Environment Canada for the original wind-warning bulletins for the region, to make sure I hadn’t missed any and because several had since been archived online. I also asked for the timestamped XML files — or directions on how to access them myself. I wasn’t asking about the fire. I wasn’t asking for anything new. I was trying to retrieve historical weather warnings and records, most of which were already publicly available. This was their response. It took them two full working days to send this.

This latest article from Thomas Pikkety, the renowned French economist and leading authority on wealth inequality, should be essential reading here in the UK. His argument is simple. France has never been wealthier. Yet education funding per student has fallen by 20% since 2017, public services are struggling, and inequality is deeply embedded in the system. Sound familiar? The problem isn't that our countries have run out of wealth. It's how that wealth is distributed, who controls it, and the political choices made to protect it. For decades, we've been told that austerity, declining public services and falling living standards are unavoidable consequences of economic crises, yet those same decades have seen extraordinary concentrations of private wealth. Socialise the costs. Privatise the gains. This is the reality we all need to wake up to. These aren't inevitable economic outcomes. They're the consequences of political choices, made over time, that have prioritised the accumulation of private wealth over the needs of society. And as public anger grows, we're seeing a deeply concerning response: The rise of the far right, directing that anger towards immigrants, disabled people, those claiming welfare and other vulnerable groups, rather than towards the economic structures responsible for the inequalities people are rightly furious about. As @NaomiAKlein describes fascism, "it's capitalism's most ferocious threat response. A way of directing public anger downwards at the vulnerable, rather than upwards at the system." Fascism doesn't challenge the status quo. It protects it by giving people someone else to blame. The fundamental question isn't whether our societies can afford something better. It's why, when we've never been wealthier, we're repeatedly told we must accept less. We need to fundamentally rethink an economy built around extraction, exploitation and wealth concentration, and start building one that delivers equitable, sustainable prosperity for everyone. And with the UK Budget next week, this should be a serious warning to @UKLabour. If the Budget fails to acknowledge this fundamental reality, and instead offers another round of "difficult decisions" that protect concentrated wealth while asking ordinary people to shoulder the burden, then @andyburnham really hasn't understood what's happening across Europe. What's unfolding in France isn't an isolated protest. It's a warning of what happens when people stop accepting that a society growing ever wealthier somehow can't afford to give them a better life. This isn't something politicians can keep kicking down the road. The warning signs are everywhere. The question now is whether those in power are prepared to confront the causes, or continue defending the very system that's driving the anger. @ZackPolanski @jeremycorbyn @KemiBadenoch @Nigel_Farage

Jason Alexander says he feared visiting Palestine as a Jew until 10 Palestinians protected him during an Israeli army raid in Ramallah “How much of a risk would I be taking as an American Jew walking into Palestinian cities? And Mohammed said, ‘The greatest dishonor that could happen to a religious Muslim is to allow harm to come to an invited guest’” “And he said, ‘Jason, if they had to, they’ll take a bullet for you.’ And what was so interesting about that trip is, we were having lunch in Ramallah with a bunch of actors and artists at a sort of outdoor restaurant” “And the Israeli army was conducting a raid on a bank that they thought had terrorist ties a couple blocks away. And they must have, to announce themselves, just shot into the air. And I remember 10 of those guys at the table surrounding me. And I went, ‘Oh my God, he wasn’t kidding. They’re not going to let me get hurt’”

Everything Yann said here is roughly correct, and Musk knows it, which is why he responded like a 14-year-old.
Calling @MKBHD’s video “hate” is misguided and highlights the nearly insurmountable issue the Tesla community has with criticism. There was plenty to criticize about that unveiling and I thought Marques did an incredible job. He is becoming a great force pushing against the growing movement in tech and now automotive of over promising and under delivering.

Will never forget this. It felt like an act of desperation, something so horrifying that it would finally reach people. But Western governments and many Western journalists kept right on supporting the genocide. They made an appeal to basic humanity and found it didn't exist.

BREAKING: Israeli spyware is confirmed on our phones. This should be headline news but none of our mainstream media is covering it, of course. So we will. An Israeli ad company called Discover-Tech used ordinary online ads to plant spyware on people’s devices, and nobody had to click anything. The ad just had to load on a website or inside an app for you to be infected. Citizen Lab and the ad security firm Confiant published the findings yesterday. Researchers went through roughly 4 billion ad-bidding records and found Discover-Tech ads running on more than 120,000 websites and 70,000 apps between March and June of this year. Confiant says the company was serving at least 10 million ads a day. The platform was called Controlium. According to Citizen Lab, it let spyware companies use ad auctions to profile and unmask users, then send an infected ad to the one person they wanted to hack. The ads were also pulling cookies and login tokens from the sites they ran on. Israeli corporate records list Dekel Boni as the company’s founding director and sole shareholder. The main spyware customer was Candiru, the Israeli firm the U.S. government blacklisted in 2021, which now goes by Integrity Labs. Five years after that blacklisting, it was still reaching devices through ad inventory on Google, Comcast-owned Beeswax and Russia’s Yandex. Google had Discover-Tech on its approved vendor list from 2020 until this week. At least 45 Al Jazeera devices were targeted in 2024 and 2025. Candiru’s 2021 shareholder filings reportedly listed a minority investor described as a proxy for Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, and Qatar also funds Al Jazeera. If that holds up, Qatari state money was sitting inside the company whose spyware was later aimed at Qatar’s own news network. The heaviest targeting was in the Palestinian territories, where Discover-Tech served almost 2% of all digital ads and about 10% on April 7. Traffic also reached the Armenian prime minister’s office, courts, universities and defense organizations. Google and the other ad platforms cut Discover-Tech off after the report came out. What nobody has answered yet is who paid for the ad buys, and how a company working with a U.S.-blacklisted spyware vendor passed vendor review for six years. I am going to look into this today to see if we can figure out who was buying the ads. Interesting timing considering my article yesterday.... Here's what to do to protect yourself: (1) Use an ad blocker. Citizen Lab calls ad-blocking a cybersecurity best practice and says there is no consistently safe way to be exposed to targeted ads. On iPhone, add a Safari content blocker. On Android, use Brave or Firefox with uBlock Origin. Ad blockers only work in your browser, not inside apps, so it also helps to delete free ad-supported apps you don’t need. Kill your advertising ID. (2) iPhone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and turn off “Allow Apps to Request to Track.” Then Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising, and turn Personalized Ads off. (2) Android 12 or later: Settings > Privacy > Ads > Delete Advertising ID. Then in Settings > Google > All Services > Privacy & security > Ads > Ads privacy, turn off Ad topics and Ad measurement. (3) Windows 11: Settings > Privacy & Security > General, and turn off personalized ads using your advertising ID. (4) Update your phone and restart it often. Many zero-click exploits don’t survive a reboot, so a daily restart forces attackers to reinfect you. Stay tuned!

Nobody becomes a great writer by studying great writing. They become a great writer by writing badly for a long time and slowly getting less bad. The reading helps. It cannot substitute for the volume of bad writing that has to happen first. There's no shortcut through that part.

That is 400,000 people who were in Gaza in 2023 and who are no longer in Gaza, by Smotrich's math. 400,000.

That's because as the unions have been screaming: Ford's education reforms are all about real estate.
NEW: In his first year running Ontario's largest school board, the Ford government's TDSB supervisor logged more than twice as many meetings with the board's $20B real estate arm than he did with parent groups, calendar entries reveal. The FOI records offer a rare glimpse into the supervisor’s day-to-day work, raising concerns that parents have taken a back seat under provincial supervision. Story: thetrillium.ca/news/educatio…

"What happened to Gaza and in Gaza to Palestinians and Israelis supersedes every legal, moral and humane standard. There are so many people complicit in what happened there and continues to happen." Striking words from the ICRC President.
Today on The Interview: Her Urgent Warning. The world is at war. There are 130 active conflicts, more than at any time since WW2. Add to that that leaders who are increasingly extreme: the US DOD scheduling a public execution, the degradation of language around war with leaders calling for total annihilation, civilian casualties seemingly the point and not a byproduct of wars, democracies weakened and insurgencies strengthened. The head of the ICRC (not to be confused with the American Red Cross) who is the guardian of the Geneva Conventions rarely gives interviews. She felt compelled to give this one. ⭕️ Israeli reservist tells Der Spiegel his unit killed Palestinians who approached hidden positions, then logged them as terrorists The soldier, who spent about 250 days in Gaza, described a procedure his unit often used called “Alman Kasch,” in which troops take up concealed positions in areas that have not been evacuated and open fire on anyone who comes near. “If Palestinians, who do not know that our soldiers are there, approach, they are shelled. Usually other people come along who want to help, they are also shot at. Within a few minutes, five, six or seven people are killed. The protocol says: seven terrorists eliminated. But no, it’s just seven people who crossed an intersection. Important: We do not kill, we eliminate. That’s how we’ve always phrased it.” He said his brigade killed 160 to 170 people during more than 80 days in the Netzarim corridor, where “there were no fighting, no attacks by Hamas.” “Only one man was suspected to carry a gun. No one saw the gun, it was night, and he had something with him that could have been interpreted as a weapon. He was killed about 500 meters north of the corridor, so he was not a direct danger, and we never examined his body. But not only him, but all these dead were reported as terrorists.” The soldier is one of ten who gave testimony to Der Spiegel.

Maybe when you find yourself offside with the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, you're the ones that people are advocating peace in opposition of.
Canadians condemn the Nobel Committee’s decision to award Navi Pillay the 2026 Peace Prize. Her leadership of the commission accusing Israel of genocide and support for sanctions against Israel raising profound concerns about impartiality. We believe this selection rewards bias and undermines the prize’s moral authority. Coming two days after October 7’s third anniversary, it is an affront to victims and survivors. Peace requires truth, fairness and unequivocal opposition to terrorism. We urge the committee to reconsider and uphold equal dignity and justice for Israelis and Palestinians alike. @AnitaAnandMP @NobelPrize
