So, just who were the “Antichrists” in 1 John 4:1-3 and 2 John (v. 7)? Unlike those who split off from John's church in 1 John 2:19, these false teachers advocated participating in the imperial cult under Domitian (1 John 5:21). Here's a photo I took of Domitian in Ephesus
