Penguins sleep more deeply in the afternoon than in the morning. French scientist Gérard Dewasmes discovered this by poking penguins with a stick at different times of day and recording how long it took them to wake up.

Laura Kuenssberg asks if it bothers Labour's Bridget Phillipson that people who create jobs and pay a lot of tax, citing, Jim Ratcliffe, move abroad - except, that's not the full story.
My View: Did you know companies owned by Jim Ratcliffe have received public support worth around £630 million, based on reported UK and European measures?
That includes up to £70m in UK state aid, a £150m Grangemouth support package, €300m of French support for the Lavéra site, and a reported €178m in German tax support. Not all of this is a direct cash grant - but it is still substantial public backing.
Yet Ratcliffe criticises welfare spending while many working people need support because low pay does not cover the cost of living.
And despite building his fortune through a British-founded business, he moved his tax residence to Monaco - a move reported at the time to be capable of avoiding £4 billion in UK tax.
He has also criticised immigration in the UK, where around 19% of people were born abroad. Yet he has chosen to live in Monaco, where around 76% of residents are non-Monégasque, making it one of the most immigrant-heavy countries in the world.
That is the contradiction: public support for a billionaire’s companies is treated as investment; support for working people is treated as dependency. He benefits from the state when it protects his interests, but attacks those who need the state to protect theirs.
I’d rather celebrate entrepreneurs who build successful businesses while recognising a responsibility to the country and communities that helped make that success possible.

How Britain’s flagship ‘levelling up’ project turned into a scandalous giveaway.

It was to be the UK’s largest regeneration scheme in decades, a model for regional devolution and the flagship post-Brexit freeport. But the redevelopment of the former steelworks on the south bank of the River Tees became little more than an unlawful, taxpayer-funded scheme to promote the political career of a Tory golden boy and vastly enrich a couple of local businessmen and their families, all hidden in a web of deception.
Conservative Mayor of Tees Valley Lord Houchen told #Newsnight in 2024 that 2 private developers had ‘£50m of their money sitting in a bank account’ when I quoted an independent report pointing out the pair (Chris Musgrove & Martin Corney) had put no direct cash of their own into regenerating the huge old Redcar steelworks site (now Teesworks)
@RBrooks45 reports in this week’s @PrivateEyeNews that almost all of that £50m has now been taken as dividends by Messrs Musgrave & Corney (there’s £2.7m left in the account)

On the subject of women, your fellow Reform MP James McMurdock eventually pleaded guilty to assaulting a young women, having initially denied the charge. He was given a custodial sentence. The assault included him pushing her to the floor and repeatedly kicking her. The victim's mother described him as a monster.
Anthony Middleton is seeking to be the Reform candidate for Mayor of London. He was convicted for common assault of a woman police officer and was arrested having run away from the scene and blamed the fact he was drunk. He served just four months of a 14 month sentence. He's now claiming this conviction was incorrect, despite previously saying he regretted his actions. He spoke at the Reform conference.
The BBC found numerous examples of Reform candidates posting offensive comments about women ahead of the general election, including referring to them as bints, tarts, sluts and bitches bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Do these concern you? Did you ask your party to conduct a full review?
Any man who assaults a woman is a coward who should forever be ashamed of his actions.
