NOR’EASTER AFTERNOON UPDATE… 🌊💨 Still maintaining the going forecast with few changes. One concern we need to start talking more about: the trees are still fully leafed out. With soaking rain adding weight to the trees, combined with a prolonged period of strong winds and potentially higher gusts, I’m increasingly concerned about widespread downed trees and a significant number of power outages this weekend. Rhode Island is expected to see a period of strong winds and heavy rain later this week as a coastal storm moves toward Southern New England. While the storm’s exact track and strength are still uncertain, residents should be prepared for potentially hazardous conditions. 🌀🍂 If you are heading to the East Coast this weekend, get ready to deal with rain and gusty winds. Those on the immediate coastline will also deal with coastal flooding and high wave heights. While this storm is expected to be impactful, this is a typical Nor'easter we see during the autumn months and is nothing out of the "ordinary". The highest wind gusts will remain offshore, where they could reach 60+ mph. Along the coastlines, expect 40 - 55 mph wind gusts, and farther inland they will be 25 to 45 mph. Due to the prolonged potential for gusty winds and an atypical wind direction out of the northeast, those in the 40+ potential may see some wind damage and/or isolated power outages. It is looking to be quite rainy as well, as the storm will sort of "stall" over the entire weekend, bringing rain up and down the coast. A general 1 to 3 inches of rain can be expected along and east of the I-95 corridor, with isolated higher amounts. Since this rain will be "spread out" over 48 hours-ish, flooding impacts will not be as bad as you'd think, but watch for some rising streams/creeks and rivers.
