SpaceX Investor @GerberKawasaki tells me he’s not only “disgusted…from a humanity perspective” by restrictions on Starlink in Ukraine, but also: “…they've given everybody a reason not to use Starlink, that Starlink isn't reliable for national security for anybody but Trump.”

Stephen Lecce & Sylyia Jones spent $23.3M on "Protect Ontario ads & healthcare ads" that didn't protect 500 Hamilton Stelco employees who were laidoff despite U.S. Stelco owner making a profit & Jones laying off 413 Hamilton Health Science staff including 143 registered nurses.
PM Mark Carney comments on the Ford government's 'protect Ontario' ads -- and suggests mentions of federal funding is left out. #onpoli

NEW: The Ford government has broken its own record for ad spending. Internal documents show its advertising bill climbed to more than $117 million last year, according to internal documents — the highest total in a single year in Ontario’s history. A breakdown of how the money was spent in this story by me and @CharliePinkerto: thetrillium.ca/news/governme…

Pretty unbelievable the head of drug discovery at Anthropic is only now realizing the bottleneck in biotech isn’t actually drug discovery
Where do you go next after reporting from the Strait of Hormuz? For the past three months, Citrini Research, an independent research firm, has been working with our team and an internal research model to see if they could use AI to create a new drug. What follows is an entertaining, candid, and humbling account of a group of motivated nonexperts (or “filthy casuals”, as Citrini would say) trying to tackle a real problem in human health with Claude. We landed on scorpion neurotoxins, which kill over 3,000 people a year. Of the 211 designs we produced and tested, 17 met our criteria for a binder. None of the designs bound more than one toxin and none have been tested for neutralizing a toxin. One of my favorite quotes from the piece is: “Our virtual biologist may have compressed a year's worth of work into a couple days, but biology works at the speed of life…Over two days, we watched Claude work through problems at a speed that was difficult to comprehend. For the next two months, we spent much of the time becoming familiar with laboratory turnaround times (This mostly involved sending memes in Slack).”

“i will just die in my home i wont go to a nursing home” is an ego preserving way of saying “i will make my eldest daughter juggle unpaid nursing care and being my social world with all her other responsibilities”

I learned to love WFH and never plan to use an office again. I tried one for a while, and it was a disaster for me. I found commuting the biggest time-waster. And I love that my social life is now centered around my community and hobbies, not coworkers.
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

The only people who think like this are men with a short commute to work who have a partner who takes care of all the house & child responsibilities. Or single men.

A girl just said she tried to get rejected 1000 times in 2025 and ended up being cast in plays, winning pageants, securing hella paid brand deals, and appearing in commercials. This is your sign to chase rejection to the point of "accidental" success. You'll be surprised.

My letter in today's London Free Press Spend it on staff Regarding the article New Ontario team to help LHSC cut ER wait times (Oct. 14) Any attention to the disgraceful state of Ontario’s emergency room wait times is, of course, welcome. However, permit me to introduce of a brief moment of cynicism: It was 2018 when Premier Doug Ford promised to end hallway medicine within a year. In 2020, he stated “we’re doing everything we can to end hallway medicine.” In 2024, he again emphasized he would “step up” to end the abhorrent practice of trying to care for people in hospital hallways, going one step further by stating he would commit sufficient funds to bring emergency wait times down to one hour. Further, resolving the problem means applying the scientific principles to patient flow that have been studied and established during the past 30 years. Forty-one million dollars to reinvent the wheel would go a long way to keep the nurses his government seems so intent on firing, a concept clearly at odds with the goal of reducing wait times. Men are far more emotional than women, they just pretend anger, impatience, boredom, and jealousy are not emotions when experienced by men. So, when men feel these emotions—like if their team loses or a woman writes something online—they insist they are being un-emotional.
Men run on logic. Women run on emotions.

Breaking news: the word “Scaramucci” today returns to being a mere surname, not a unit of measure. @Scaramucci
BREAKING: White House press secretary Katie Zacharia is "transitioning out" of her role, a senior White House official tells @pdoocy . President Trump denies firing her, telling reporters, "No no. I want her to have a good life… she’s been brutalized by the media." Trump says he encouraged Zacharia to reconsider staying in the job just minutes before speaking to reporters, telling her, "You don't have to do this if you don't want to." @AmericaRpts

wow. i see that in algoma, but it’s moving to the epicenter of the medical world. horrible.
I work in the ED of a mid-sized hospital, so I was surprised 2 see that even DT Toronto hospitals face similar shortcomings: ONE doc covering the entire acute dept overnight, nursing shortages severe enough 2 close sections of the ED & the ever-present reality of hallway medicine
