Customs officials seem to get much more serious when you say the purpose of your trip is to look for housing and then ask a bunch of confusing jargonny questions and get annoyed when you don't know how to answer. 😅

This year's submissions have been a combination of awe and wonder, and laugh-out-loud silliness. Can't wait to show them off. Also @vividfax is absolutely killing it with the main app design again.
Just one more week until Advent.js 2024 begins! Have you put up any decorations yet? We’re hard at work hanging our digital tinsel up and getting the Javascript-flavoured mince pies in. I wonder what this year's theme will be... 👀 #p5js #processing
Yay! The article I worked on with Anastasia Salter about using crafting metaphors into our gaming classes has been published today in @MAIfeminism! The special issue is full of amazing articles, and is well worth a look! maifeminism.com/issues/focus…
Obviously that's not the only reason but it was a major factor in why I delayed my start to just Jan 1st instead of the following fall.
This reminds me of some research @gillianmsmith, @SevenFridays, and I did around the importance of doodling as a way to understand GenAI at @dagstuhl. This is a great read!
this is one of the deepest insights i've gotten from a CHI paper -- not surprised it came from @fabulousQian, @nikola_banovic and @cmuhcii's own JZ
if you're creating with GenAI, sit with it for a moment

The ultimate result of this is not just training AI models on archival data, its training ourselves to access archives through AI models. This is a way of justifying and legitimising them through cultural institutions – at Islington, London
New from 404 Media: the National Archives is pushing Google Gemini AI on employees. Gave workers a presentation called "AI-mazing Tech-venture" in which NARA said the chat bot could "enhance productivity." Employees have concerns; we got the presentation 404media.co/ai-mazing-tech-v…

Doing the new faculty orientation at York and when people heard I am from the US they either wanted to talk about our obsession with guns or our presidential election. The shooting alert I got from Georgia Tech's notification system did not help dispel these stereotypes.
I moved to midtown about two weeks ago and within a week I witnessed a gun/knife fight on Piedmont outside my apt building. At least no one has shat on the sidewalk outside the apt yet?
For the record, even though 4 shots were fired and the other guy had two knives with one being as long as his forearm, no one was hurt. Cops said they couldn't do anything even though some dude is shooting a gun in the middle of the city.

Nazi concentration camp Ravensbrück used female forced labor for textile and clothing manufacturing, including sock-knitting for the Wehrmacht. Some women knitted mistakes into the heels, making them uncomfortable or painful to wear. Such a great example of textile as resistance
In exciting news, this happened! I'm so extremely honored to be one of this year's @theHEVGA fellows! I'm in incredible company with some folks I deeply respect @MyOwnVelouria, @MituK, and @hkoenitz. A lovely surprise! <3
Congratulations to Anne Sullivan on being awarded @theHEVGA fellowship, one of only four given globally each year. She has published more than 45 peer-reviewed journal, conference, and workshop articles. bit.ly/3YlKPpI
Moving to midtown Atlanta this week because my partner of 18 years and I are splitting. I've known about this for months but actually doing the move is making this VERY VERY REAL.
New place is super cute, though!
