Three years after the massacres of October 7th, Binyamin Netanyahu’s rivals are determined to make the election a reckoning for that day and the wars and bloodshed that have followed, bit.ly/4yCqI4W

I’m a bit too busy covering an election so haven’t had the time to delve into the report on antisemitism in British schools. But from what I’ve seen on this site, I’m really impressed by all those so eagerly dismantling it. I’m sure they’ve done the same with other minorities.
We keep getting told that tomorrow’s election is The Most Consequential in Israel’s History. But surely that title should go to the previous election in 2022 which unleashed on Israel the coalition of chaos. Tomorrow’s election will either be just an extension of the wreckers’ license or the beginning of a very slow and gradual change. That is what Israeli elections should be. We elect coalitions of parties that compromise with each other, not radical reformers. Real change will take years of work and the election is at most just the beginning. My column in @haaretzcom

After days of reports of a growing rift between Netanyahu and the IDF General Staff over his pushing for a strike on Iran, the IDF Spox put out a striking non-denial saying just that the “IDF is focused on its missions” and that “all the IDF’s considerations are professional”

When Israel went to war against Iran in the past, its generals and spies were behind Netanyahu. He no longer has that level of support:

Israel’s generals stood behind Netanyahu in the last two wars with Iran. Now he’s trying to drag Israel into a 3rd war with Iran on the eve of elections and they’re briefing against him. My report in @TheEconomist

Until now Binyamin Netanyahu has evaded responsibility for October 7th. Israelis will finally have their say in elections next week. Listen to “The trials of Binyamin Netanyahu” on “The Weekend Intelligence” economist.com/podcasts/2026/…

Netanyahu’s gearing up to strike Iran again and losing the election on Tuesday won’t necessarily stop him. My report in @TheEconomist
