MICROSOFT OFFERS BUYOUTS TO 60,000 WORKERS AS AI SPENDING SOARS (BBG) Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to roughly 60,000 employees, or 27% of its global workforce, according to Bloomberg. The move comes as the company looks to cut costs while pouring billions into artificial intelligence. The offers cover selected teams across the US, Canada, UK and India, including employees in AI and Copilot divisions. But not everyone is eligible, and the bigger question is how many will actually leave… [Stay ahead of breaking tech/semiconductor news from Korea and beyond with Antfeed. APPLE CONFIRMS IPHONE DUO DISPLAY ISSUES, OFFERS REPLACEMENTS Apple has acknowledged an issue affecting the inner display of a small number of iPhone Duo units, following reports of screens cracking near the hinge just days after launch. Affected customers are being directed to AppleCare for replacements. But Apple has yet to explain what's causing the failures, raising fresh questions about the durability of its first foldable iPhone… [Stay ahead of breaking tech/semiconductor news from Korea and beyond with Antfeed. apple and the iPhone Duo. i'm guessing Apple under Steve Jobs probably wouldn't have shipped the iPhone Duo with these screen issues. no idea how many units are actually affected, probably a tiny fraction, but social media can make even isolated hardware problems look widespread. then there's the software side. plenty of apps still aren't properly optimized for the Duo's screen layout, making the whole experience feel a little less polished than what we've come to expect from Apple. but you know, Apple has to change. the old Jobs-era philosophy of polishing everything to "perfection" before launch is becoming a luxury it can no longer afford (even Apple's foldable is late to the party, and still looks like a work in progress.) Chinese tech companies have gotten remarkably good at shipping fast, fixing problems, and improving products as they go. speed and constant iteration have become competitive advantages in their own right. and i suspect John Ternus/Tim Cook understand this better than anyone. Apple spent decades showing China how to manufacture Ferrari-grade tech products at Toyota-level scale. but somewhere along the way, what began as a manufacturing partnership turned into a two-way exchange of industrial knowledge, engineering practices, and even ways of thinking. now Apple may be discovering that precision and perfection alone aren't enough when the very companies that learned from you are moving at a pace you can barely keep up with. and that's perhaps the uniquely Apple challenge going forward. figuring out how to move faster, experiment more, and adapt along the way (straight out of China's playbook), without losing the engineering precision, attention to detail, and manufacturing discipline that made Apple what it is in the first place. apple is changing. and maybe it has to.

AI COMPANIES CAN'T AFFORD TO STOP SPENDING: THAT COULD KEEP MEMORY PRICES ELEVATED FOR YEARS (NOMURA) TIL: Much of 2027's memory supply and pricing may already be locked into long-term agreements, even as Big Tech's free cash flow deteriorates. Nomura believes a memory shortage in 2027 is now virtually unavoidable, assigning a 75% probability to the AI spending race continuing. Why? Because hyperscalers can't afford to fall behind their rivals, even if it means years of negative free cash flow. But Nomura also sees one major threat that could change everything. What could actually bring this memory supercycle to an end? [UNCONFIRMED] CHINA'S CXMT REPORTEDLY REJECTS APPLE'S DRAM PRICING DEMANDS China's CXMT has reportedly refused Apple's request for cheaper DRAM than Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. Chinese media suggest the company is prioritizing domestic customers as local demand stretches its production capacity. Industry observers see a bigger strategy behind the move: China's push for memory self-sufficiency. But whether this is simply a pricing dispute or something more strategic remains unclear… [Stay ahead of breaking semiconductor news from Korea and beyond with Antfeed. SPACEX COULD EARN $133 BILLION BY 2028: WALL STREET MAY BE UNDERVALUING ITS AI BUSINESS (MORGAN STANLEY) TIL: Morgan Stanley thinks the next big AI investment opportunity may be moving out of data centers and into space, robotics and manufacturing. The bank calls it the Physical Intelligence Economy, and sees SpaceX as a potentially underappreciated player. It projects $133 billion in SpaceX earnings by 2028, implying a P/E of just 14.3x at the valuation cited in its report. Yet Morgan Stanley attributes only $22 of SpaceX's roughly $145 share price to AI. So how much of SpaceX's future AI potential is Wall Street actually pricing in? COREWEAVE'S $37 BILLION QUESTION: CAN THE AI DATA CENTER BOOM KEEP FINANCING ITSELF? (MORGAN STANLEY) TIL: CoreWeave could need another $24 billion to $37 billion in borrowing just to support its planned data center expansion through 2027. Morgan Stanley just cut its price target from $99 to $70, even while acknowledging CoreWeave's strong execution and attractive contract economics. The problem? Its unsecured bond spreads have widened roughly 300 basis points since late August. Having customers willing to pay for AI computing is one thing. Finding lenders willing to finance the buildout is another. So how much does CoreWeave's future depend on who signs its next contracts? SAMSUNG'S 4F² DRAM SHOWS 20% MORE DIES PER WAFER, BUT THERE'S A CATCH Samsung says its 16Gb 4F² DRAM test chip demonstrated over 20% more dies per wafer, while SK Hynix has validated its own vertical-gate design. Both are betting on smaller memory cells for next-generation DRAM. But Micron, which spent over 20 years researching 4F², says the technology isn't worth commercializing. With China's CXMT also advancing 4F², the real test may not be who gets there first… [Stay ahead of breaking semiconductor news from Korea and beyond with Antfeed. taiwan firing on all cylinders 🔥 taiwan projection, nearly 12% GDP growth?! an absolutely staggering growth forecast(!) just needs T-Drama, T-Pop to take off next.
TAIWAN'S AI BOOM COULD DRIVE 11.7% GDP GROWTH: EVEN KOREA ISN'T SEEING THIS KIND OF SPILLOVER (GOLDMAN SACHS) TIL: Goldman Sachs sees something pretty remarkable happening in Taiwan. The AI boom is spreading beyond semiconductor factories into wages, consumer spending and corporate lending. The bank just raised its 2026 GDP growth forecast to 11.7%, while corporate lending is growing at 12.4%, its fastest pace since 1998. Goldman says Taiwan is seeing broader economic benefits from AI than Korea, where the gains remain more concentrated in memory prices. It even expects Taiwan's central bank to start raising rates in December. So why is AI transforming Taiwan's broader economy faster than Korea's? ICYMI: HYBRID BONDING ORDERS DOUBLE AS MEMORY GIANTS RACE TOWARD NEXT-GEN HBM Dutch equipment maker Besi says hybrid bonding orders in the first nine months of 2026 more than doubled its total for all of 2025. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron are accelerating development of the technology for next-generation memory. But mass production is another story. Yield, reliability and cost remain major hurdles, and traditional TC bonding may not be going away anytime soon… [Stay ahead of breaking semiconductor news from Korea and beyond with Antfeed.
