On October 6, someone got GTA 5 running inside a Chrome tab. A game that normally needs over 100GB loaded with a 700MB download.
It was gone within hours.
But these 10 PC and console games still run free in your browser right now, check them out:
1. GTA: Vice City
The full 2002 game in a tab. You start a new game and you're walking around as Tommy Vercetti. About 135MB to load, and it has touch controls so it even runs on your phone.

2. GTA III
Liberty City, 2001. Fans rebuilt the game's engine by hand so it could run on a web page. About 116MB, phone works too. Ignore the "Online" in the name, it's the single player game.

3. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies
All ten maps, from Nacht der Untoten to Moon. Play solo or make a lobby and invite friends.
Activision already killed its first link with a takedown notice. It moved to the homepage the next day.
Desktop only.

4. EA Cricket 07
One developer took the original Windows game and translated it to run in a browser one piece at a time. 31,547 pieces. His code history credits Claude as a co-author.
Online 1v1 with a friend using a room code.

5. The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+
Not a remake. It's the real PC game rebuilt for the browser, so every item and every weird combo works the same. It even has a mod browser that pulls from the Steam Workshop.
Big first load, about 740MB.

6. Pro Evolution Soccer 6
The PSP version, playable in a tab with no account. You can open a room, send the link to a friend, and play each other online. Works on your phone with an on-screen controller.

7. The Simpsons: Hit & Run
The 2003 cult classic that never got a re-release. Click start and you're outside the Simpsons' house. The game streams as you drive around Springfield, so new areas load on the go.

8. Half-Life
Back to Black Mesa, in a tab. Opposing Force is in there too. About 214MB before you can play.

9. Quake III Arena
Pieter Levels put it on his own server. Open the link and you're dropped into a live deathmatch, with bots filling empty slots. About 30MB, and it runs on phones.

10. LEGO Island
The 1997 game where you deliver pizzas as Pepper Roni and chase the Brickster. A fan community rebuilt the entire source code from the original files. All three acts, phone friendly.

None of these are official. They're fan projects, and publishers have already taken some down. The GTA 5 one lasted a few hours.
So if one of these was your childhood, I wouldn't wait on it.

Hello computer.
Decompile and distill Grand Theft Auto.
Make the game set in my hometown -- use Google Earth to reconstruct it in pixel-perfect detail.
Make the character me and have my spawn point be in the mansion I always look at on Zillow.
Review my chat memory and make every mission about my hopes and dreams.
Make it playable online so my friends can join.
When you're done, sell all my video games on Ebay and use that money to fund tokens for my next game.
