I’ve always wondered how the Liberals, obsessed with “gender based analysis plus,” ignored the huge gender imbalance created by their out of control immigration policies.

What Carney promised to fix fast — and still hasn’t
Carney promised free trade inside Canada by Canada Day, doubled housing starts toward 500k/year, fast major projects, US trade certainty, and a skilled workforce and 18 months later:
* Interprovincial barriers & labour mobility still drag growth. Federal exceptions cleared and some goods mutual recognition done, but ~200 provincial ones remain. Workers still don’t move freely (easier in the EU). Hyder: “We’re still in our own way more than we need to be on provincial trade barriers… The fact that we still can’t move labour around in this country is really problematic. There’s easier movement in the European Union, 27 countries, than there is in Canada.”
* Housing scale-up is nowhere near the promise. Build Canada Homes committed funding for ~19k affordable units; only ~2–2.3k under construction. Starts haven’t doubled; 500k target walked back.
* Major projects and risk-averse bureaucracy. Special agencies (Major Projects Office, defence, housing) are short-term bypasses. Hyder: “We are just not a risk society. Our government is not a risk society. Our bureaucracies are punished for risk… Those [special agencies] are not sustainable in the long haul. At some point we need to have our full arsenal of government working.”
* US trade certainty incomplete. No full deal. Focus on 232 tariffs with industry supports and diversification (e.g. UAE), but tariffs persist and USMCA review looms. Hyder: “If there were a mutually beneficial deal available, then there’s something that they can do… North America is putting the puck in its own net. We’ve got to get something done sooner rather than later.”
* Workforce utilization and skills. Population growth near-flat. Credential recognition and deploying people already here remain slow—Hyder called this “job one”
Announcements and money have moved; the structural fixes (true internal free trade, systemic speed, actual housing volume, stable trade rules) have not arrived at the “light speed” promised by Carney
And the media continues to look the other way @goldyhyder
Among 32 high-income countries with universal health care, Canada is second in spending, but 26th in beds, 28th in MRI units, and CT scanners, and 30th in doctors.

This is false. Read his quote. CTV is making things up in an attempt to divide conservatives.
The ideological, unscientific tanker ban that is arbitrarily applied to one region of the country and not others, has always been opposed by conservatives.
B.C.’s incoming premier doesn’t support tanker ban reversal pitched by Poilievre ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article…

A plea to @LDoerkson / #bced
End the practice of emphasizing social groups while ignoring academic achievement.
Passing kids irrespective of academic standards is destroying teachers.
What is the point of grades if kids pass even when they haven’t met the curriculum? #bcpoli

This is eye-opening. Europe’s share of global tech R&D has collapsed from 23% in 2005 to just 8% today, while the US has climbed to 62% and China has risen from near zero to 15%. South Korea now outspends Germany, France, the UK, and Italy combined in tech R&D. Yep, you read that right.
This is the predictable result of policy choices that systematically favor control and redistribution over growth. Layered regulation, data rules, AI restrictions, labor rigidities, and precautionary frameworks, raises the cost and slows the pace of turning ideas into products, forcing companies to spend scarce resources on compliance rather than experimentation. High taxation and expansive redistributive systems extract capital that would otherwise fund private R&D and risk-taking, while shrinking the after-tax reward for building something new and scaling it. The broader left-leaning mindset that prioritizes equality of outcome over dynamism treats entrepreneurial success as something to be managed, taxed, or shared rather than unleashed and rewarded.
Places that protect the returns to innovation and keep barriers low continue to pull ahead, attracting talent and capital that Europe increasingly loses. Europe’s relative decline is the cumulative outcome of treating dynamism as a problem to be regulated rather than the engine of prosperity. Without a shift toward lighter rules, lower burdens on enterprise, and greater tolerance for unequal outcomes from unequal effort, the gap will keep widening, and Europe will become an open-air museum for wealthy Americans and Asians.

"Europe used to have a GDP per person of 90% of America’s. It’s now 65%. It’s on its way to 50%. That will jeopardize the health of Europe itself over time. And it’s all anti-business, anti-investment, anti-innovation."
Jamie Dimon, CEO JP Morgan Chase
PS No sign that the PM/Liberal government sees any lessons in Europe's decline.

Since January 2023, Canada's population has grown by 2.5Mn. This growth is driven overwhelmingly by newcomers. During that time, private-sector employment has grown by only 800k.
This is not a sensible way to run an economy. D'uh!

My latest: there’s pain at the pump. Some of this is inescapable fallout from conflicts in the Middle East and Russia/Ukraine. But much of it is self-imposed. The clean fuel regulations cost 13.57 cents a litre for diesel and 12.24 cents a litre for gasoline. To add insult to injury, tax is charged on top of these costs. Even worse, to comply with them, refiners must blend in biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel. Canada is not self-sufficient and imports over half of what it needs, predominantly from the US.
Somehow, in the middle of a trade war and an energy crisis, it has gone unnoticed that Canada — the aspiring energy superpower — has artificially made itself dependent on the United States for fuel.

Progressives blaming Eby’s defeat in the election timing are totally missing the point. The whole purpose of the early election was to try to overcome the government’s unpopularity rooted in its poor outcomes.
The real problem was the cumulative cost of Eby’s ideological agenda. His government was the last holdout of the failures of Trudeauian progressivism: a subordination of economic growth in favour of deficit financed welfare spending, a dogmatic commitment to climate change and its anti-development effects, excessive identity politics and an overly self critical posture towards Canadian history, and its radical experiment with the harm reduction model.
Election timing and campaign choices didn’t defeat the Eby government. A broad cross-section of British Columbians—from rural parts of the province to downtown Vancouver—rejected it based on the self-evident failure of its ideas.

"Abolishing the Indian Act" is a popular idea, but only because different groups of Canadians understand what this means in WILDLY different ways. People on the right think it means "no more special status" while people on the left thinks it means "much MORE special status."
Abolish the Indian Act. We have nothing to lose but our chains.
We will, of course, need new legislation that is an interface between the Federal government and First Nations. And this MUST be created alongside Chiefs and First Nation governments every step of the way. But it is time to move past the era of this outdated, racist, and patriarchal legislation.
I support Prime Minister Carney’s work to position Canada as a global leader in human rights and democracy. The Indian Act is inconsistent with achieving that vision.
Our laws at home should reflect the values we champion around the world.
It’s time for a relationship with First Nations people that reflects who we are as Canadians today, recognizes nationhood, and lives up to the true nature of reconciliation.
