Exactly a week ago, I walked the aisle of the @UnilorinNGR auditorium, not as a student anymore, but as a graduand of this great citadel. 🎓
Cheers to a new dispensation. ✨

“MY ADVICE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE A BEST GRADUATING STUDENT (BGS)”
Based off numerous questions and direct messages I’ve been receiving.
I had this interview with a very nice lady and she asked me this and just like that, one thought led to another… but I was able to collect it all together.
The beginning of your end is believing you can do it alone. You must hold onto God and trust him. He will finish everything he started.
Reading is not enough for excellence. There should be more emphasis placed on “how to read” than “number of times you read.”
You need to understand the systems around you and adapt. You must grow with the process or your peers will grow and leave you behind.
Evaluate and see if you’re proud of what you’re becoming. If you’re not, turn back and pick up. It’s never too late.
Never ever take your 100 level for granted. It’s the most important level ever. The foundation of a house is enough to tell whether it will stand or sink. At 100 level, many are ignorant. If you’re wise then, you’ll work while they sleep and when they wake, they can’t meet up.
You cannot be lazy and no one is. Build yourself to work. To read. To learn. And enjoy every bit of it.
Do what works for you. If you prefer reading during the day, read during the day. If not, night then. It’s about you, not the trend.
You don’t have to jump with everyone to night class or tutorials. Sometimes, the greatest things are learned alone, within your locked space.
Be so subtle, so unexpected, so unpredictable…
Be weird.
No one should tell what you’re about to do next.
Of all, be equally capable of being the erudite scholar and playing the clueless dimwit. Both sides of you will be equally needed wherever you go…

“Every Session and My Results”
Now, in the normal university ladder, the higher you go, the tougher it becomes. But for me, it was all ironical because despite getting tougher indeed, the result kept getting better!
I’ve never had a C, not even in WAEC and it has carried on through my university years.
After 100 level and I finished with 4Bs and 10As, I was quite worried with my CGPA of 4.74.
I expected better, although this was enough to make me “scholar” but I knew if I let my guard down and feel like I had arrived, I was going to crumble so I built the mindset of being so uncomfortable with the slightest imperfection.
At 200 level, I finished with 3Bs and 19As. Funny how this level was my toughest ever! The new regime was turning everything into a living hell. But I had invented a new style of “reading” and the recipe was working like magic for me. That adaptation to my reality kept me grounded.
At 300 level, I finished with 3Bs and 12As. I was now a drama major and though several courses were exciting for me here, 300 level passed in a blur and its hurdles were chestable. I remained disappointed in myself though, especially as these constant Bs were coming from one of my favorite lecturers who I could never seem to please enough to get an A. In this same 300 level though, that yoke was broken.
God knew I thought 400 level will be the worst. I was so academically exhausted and was already fraught with worries of life after school. I was encouraged to minor in multiple courses to boost my CGPA and stand a chance at faculty BGS but I minored in none.
I was so done.
Imagine my shock when 400 level results came out with 13As and 1B, my best ever result!
I really can’t explain enough what God did for me. But yeah, my greatest tool through these years to keep rising even when it got harder was to adapt.
Those who can’t adapt will fall behind. After God, this will be your greatest strength.

Today is my convocation and I am not only graduating as a First Class Student of the Department of Performing and Film Arts with a CGPA of 4.84/5.00, I am also graduating as a RECORD BREAKER:
🏆The Best Graduating Student of the Faculty of Arts 2025/2026
🏆The first in my department to achieve the feat of being faculty BGS
🏆The first in my department to graduate without having a “C” in my results
In my journey through the Department of Performing and Film Arts ever since I entered into school on the 15th of December, 2022, God has made me exceptional.
My mother will draw me close and tell me, “Michael, do you know the story of Daniel? The Bible says he was a man with the spirit of excellence! He was the only one described to have an excellent spirit. You have an excellent spirit in you and so you will excel.”
Mma, you did not lie.
What a journey it had been; a journey towards perfection with so many lessons learnt.
And since I am so much of the storyteller, some of these lessons, I shall now proceed to share in seven parts based on the many questions I’ve been asked.
Congratulations to me!

THE MOST RANDOM QUOTES EVER YOU’LL MEET ON THIS PLATFORM TODAY
Based on demand from my ideas and experiences on friendship and life in general, school and beyond. You don’t have to agree with all; it’s all subjective. But you may choose to learn. Who knows?
I’ve come to understand that greatness is a lonely road. In fact, if everyone is your “friend”, check closely, you’re doing something wrong.
There comes a time when you’ll be so alone. In that moment, you shall find your greatest strength.
“Do not trust a man! It almost broke your father and it took him two decades to rise again. Do not trust a man!”
Never help those who do not wish to be helped. You’re not helping. You’re embarrassing yourself.
There comes a time when your friends and enemies will blur into a single line until you can’t tell them apart. This is your moment to be most careful. Tread with tiptoes.
If you find someone that loves you first, hold them close. Never let go. If you can’t love the person equally well, then please let go. Immediately! If not, you’re trapping that person in a prison and you’ll never be forgiven.
Once is an event. Twice a mistake. Three times a coincidence. The fourth time is enough to make you understand this person is not a friend and cannot work with you. On the fourth, you cut it off and don’t look back. If you give the fifth chance, you’ve dug your own grave.
Keep the friend/s you’ve identified close and your enemies far away from you (as against the popular quote). Their energy can disrupt the entirety of your work.
Joy will stray far away from you. You’d have to find it and I will tell you where it lies - in the future you envision.
A friend is someone you can play with and work with equally well. If a person leans towards the work scale too much, that’s a partner. If a person leans towards the play scale too much, that’s an acquaintance. Put everyone in their place.
Ndi Igbo will say “Ọ onye maara mmadu ga-egbu ya.” Guard your heart from all feelings. It is those who you love the most that know your Achilles heel.
If you’re born to lead, get your armor ready. Yes, the one that guards against the hate of many that are bound to despise you.
I’ve tested several laws of friendship and found the Murphy’s Law is the safest. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong. You have two options. If you want to be carefree, dive into any relationship ignorantly, like a child on a water slide. If you want to be safe, approach every relationship with the pessimist mindset and wait till you’re proven wrong. Both are risks. But while the first option will get you killed, the second will simply let you walk out saying: “I told you so.”
With or without you, everyone will still win. If the gathering was of fools, without you, they’ll win even more!
You cannot buy love and attention by showing love and affection. You can’t. You can’t. YOU CAN’T.
There are two types of people that will most likely die from a toxic relationship: overthinkers and those with low self esteem. These types of people always convince themselves that they are the problem and so they stay and stay and like the ashes of a shriveled leaf, they are blown by the wind; like dust, they fade.
“A friend in need is a friend indeed” the most misunderstood quote in friendship history. What do you think it means? Many believe it means the first person you run to when in need is your true friend. But it’s actually to be interpreted as the person who plays that role of a friend when you have nothing is who you call your friend. It’s not about you. It’s about them.
I’d probably share many more some other time. For now, let me finish my graduation series.

Yes, I am not aware.
Thanks for pointing that out.
But I still dare to ask you, how many of such courses, topics and subjects exist in the “pure” Science world?
Ask yourself.
Then, compare it to the Arts, Social Sciences, Law... it's not the same.
We are speaking about “why near perfect CGPAs, higher scores and BGSs are more in science fields”... and my argument is just as strong as ever.

I took a mathematics course in 200l, called Real Analysis (Non-Majors).
That course didn’t have any number written in it and there were never any definite answers. Just mathematical notations and statements.
I understand you don’t know this. Your assumption is flawed.

“My Biggest Wins in My University Life”
🏆Nothing more exciting than when I became the Faculty of Arts President for a week in the reign of my boss @Mdrasaq after winning the Faculty of Arts Essay Writing Contest 2023. I was just a 100 level guy, so lost... I just spent the week collecting accolades.
Chai 😅
🏆Then I was honored to win the Student Union Essay Writing Contest (Poetry Category) with my piece, “A Pinch of Chaos.” As a 100 level student already winning such at University level, this meant everything to me.
🏆I also loved when I won a position in the UNILORIN TIM Healthcare Writing Contest. It gave me the opportunity to meet very beautiful, soul-filled people; my type! People like my Presido @g_kehfadHalal and @deiz_a_lateefah
🏆All my practicals from drama, to dance and music, I have either directed, choreographed, composed or been in a position to. We never fell short of an A. I’ll never forget PFA 102 and how I cried so hard when the A was awarded by Professor Adeoye as soon the play began. That practical, for the 100-level boy with a terrified, beating heart, just taking his chances at his creativity and praying, would remain the best ever.
🏆There was the time of winning the Best Supporting Actor after the 499 season of 2025. This award defined me in ways beyond what I can explain.
🏆The premiere of my first independently made feature film “OYIGIYIGI” is so great a moment; I’d probably have to write a book for that one. Beautiful moment.
🏆To have successfully staged the only Western Drama in PFA 499 for 2026 is an honor. You should see me teaching my cast members Latin😅
🏆Honored to be SU Filmmaker and Director of the Year 2026
🏆Honored to be the Face of PASA 2026
🏆Scholar of the Year 2026
🏆Writer of the Year 2026 at Department levels
🏆Current Theatre Students Awards (TSA) nominee for Best Writer
🏆Honored as Departmental Fresher of the Year 2023
🏆Honored as Faculty Writer of the Year 2023
And of all, happy to celebrate the fact that I never went broke throughout my four years in the university. There’s a secret formula for that, but just as its name implies, it stays secret😅

The year I graduated from OAU, only two of us finished with First Class from the entire Faculty of Arts. I sometimes think this pattern has a lot to do with how Humanities subjects are assessed.
In Literature, for instance, you can produce a thoughtful, well-argued essay and still not receive an A because grading often depends on interpretation, originality, the strength of your argument, and, inevitably, the examiner’s judgment. There is rarely one single “correct” answer in the way there may be in more quantitative disciplines.
So when we compare who emerges as the best graduating student across faculties, I think we also have to consider differences in assessment culture, grading patterns, and how attainable extremely high scores are across disciplines.
if you have looked into this pattern very well, you would have realized that, people in Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences/Education don't graduate as best graduating students.
Also, same thing apply to JAMB UTME, hardly will you see 5% of students from Humanities writing the exam get 300+. Whyyyy do you this happen? Whyyy
