The data contain a wide breadth of information even in comparison to the 1850 US census. The variables are described in international.ipums.org/inte…. Most variables have been released in the initial phase and more will be released in the future as we harmonize more variables.

This book would be a "must read" for demographers at any time, but seems particularly pressing in the current moment. Emily Klancher Merchant (@ashleystreet) tells the (hi)story of demography and the eternal, yet ever-flexible “population problem.” emilyklancher.com/book
