Agent work gets expensive when attempts fail. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and public serving code offer a cheaper route worth testing. I see an opportunity for builders. Compare the cost of work you'd accept. trilogyai.substack.com/p/dee…

In 24 hours I tracked 9 vulnerability advisories and 8 security incidents. More exploitable flaws mean better odds that one becomes a severe outage. Invest in continuity and recovery now: set targets, protect one copy, test the restore. trilogyai.substack.com/p/bus…

AI evaluations show behavior. What caused it? Goodfire says neural networks are already clean. Its mechanistic interpretability work points toward tracing AI failures and testing repairs, with coverage still to establish. trilogyai.substack.com/p/goo…
interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works already-clean.goodfire.com/

Muse Wonder was cheaper and faster; Opus 5.5 delivered more complete code. I compared both with Gemini 4 Argon in a 21-run coding study, including the API failures that shaped the results. trilogyai.substack.com/p/mus…

Great people involved here. Looking forward to seeing this bloom!
Today we're unveiling Trillium Labs @trillium_labs, a new non-profit to foster the open science of frontier AI. We're building open post-training recipes and will expand into open infra to study RSI, reward-hacking, multi-agent systems, and whatever comes next. We're built around the theory of change that you need more eyes to solve hard technical problems. We have faith in the scientific methods and communities that humanity has built, and worry that AI is becoming too closed to utilize them. Trilliums are wildflowers that bloom briefly in the spring, before the forest canopies fill out. Though they are small, they lay the foundation for the cycles of growth and nourishment through the rest of the year. At Trillium Labs, the recipes will be the slow nutrients for the seasons and the model releases will be the blooms. Building an institution dedicated to this is needed because, much as nature’s trilliums are slow to expand and grow, the open-ecosystem needs time and dedicated resources to catch up. I co-founded with with a long-time friend and collaborator Tom Zick (@thesezickbeats). We're hiring (full time + student collabs/interns), we're fundraising, and we're looking for compute. Please get in touch if you're interested in helping out. Offices based in the Bay Area and Cambridge MA, remote okay. I’m in the Bay Area until for The Curve and COLM to connect with people who are interested. We’re thankful to have initial support from Halcyon Futures and Schmidt Sciences with more funding en route to enable our ambitions of scaling. Our advisors @Thom_Wolf, @HannaHajishirzi, @gneubig and @ctnzr have been instrumental to building the ecosystem that exists today, and I’m stoked to get to keep working with them.

Confidence routing can automate the wrong cases. Accepted-case error and coverage expose the tradeoff. Jev's open rivals use encoders, decoders, and diffusion; their value depends on held-out outcomes and full cost. Read the article at trilogyai.substack.com/p/jev…

Claude Fable 5.1 used 69% more output tokens than Fable 5 in my matched pilot. The extra output went into about 3.1x more whole-file writes and 2.6x the diff churn. OpenTelemetry showed where the work went. trilogyai.substack.com/p/cla…

When I switched Codex to @deepseek_ai V4 Flash through @FireworksAI_HQ, my folders stayed but every chat disappeared from the sidebar. Codex groups sessions by provider and only shows the active group. One simple script fixes it: aicoe.fit/codex-chat-history…

I tested MiniMax H3 (new @Hailuo_AI model) through @MiniMax_AI and @fal with narrative prompts, mixed image/video/audio references, and first-and-last-frame control. Strong scene transitions, bad anatomy, occasional broken geometry. Overall great results and value. Full write-up: aicoe.fit/minimax-h3-ai-vide…

Open weights give defenders more options. Good unit economics let them audit every repo, triage every scan, and verify every fix. That’s the thinking behind the Kimi K3 playbook and exercise pack I put together for @trilogy_ai. Both are public.
Halfway into 2026, it's clear that the unit economics of AI now matter, especially for security. @trilogy_ai built a playbook for cyber defense using Kimi K3 on Fireworks. Audit every repo, triage every scan, review every PR. Get the full details: fireworks.ai/blog/trilogy-co…

This is what so many people needed clarification on! A lot of the pushback was because of the broad phrasing of "commercial use" and it wasn't clear whether that meant inference as a service or making use of the model to write commercial software.
Replying to @RyanLeeMiniMax
Self-hosted M2.7 for code writing is absolutely allowed and free of charge!!!😁 I think this license is not detailed enough, so I will update it.

I'm excited to share OpenSymphony and its main idea: work orchestration for agentic engineering. Long-horizon agent workflows need a control plane around the agent. Issues, workspaces, policy, review, and recovery all need durable structure. Web/article/repo in comments

Wholembed v3 is a big deal. Late interaction has mattered in retrieval research for years. Seeing it launch in a multimodal system is exciting. It has great potential in codebase retrieval for agentic engineering. Article + 45-min intro deep-dive video: aicoe.fit/late-interaction-c…
Introducing Mixedbread Wholembed v3, our new SOTA retrieval model across all modalities and 100+ languages. Wholembed v3 brings best-in-class search to text, audio, images, PDFs, videos... You can now get the best retrieval performance on your data, no matter its format.

In better news, I found a bug in the WebSocket implementation of OpenClaw's OpenAI API implementation that causes these "yes I will do x" for GPT 5.4 - and then the model just stops. We didn't send the new "phase" parameter. We'll do in the release coming later today. developers.openai.com/api/do… Also found a bug in how @Kimi_Moonshot Coding toolcalls are handled, which will stop degraded performance. Also sneaking in fixes from our friends at @ollama and @alibaba_cloud (Model Studio support)
