Individual campaign contribution limit is $3.3k
He means Trump’s JFC which is legally prohibited from coordinating with the campaign. In reality, everyone knows it’s a way for the donor class to make unlimited contributions. Political opinions aside, this is bad for democracy
Not surprising people don't know formal definitions of recession or inflation. Perception of the economy is about your buying power and that has gotten worse for most. "Vibecession" discourse feels like sticking your head in the sand and ignoring this.

Technically impressive and fun to use. But as an avid music fan, I wouldn’t listen to these songs, since they’re just not interesting. I’m sure it’ll be useful for background music, but not anything I’d actively seek out.
I have a similar reaction to image generation: It’s more fun and satisfying to create than to consume this media. This seems like a significant inversion.
Congrats to my sister!
I am honored and humbled to begin today as the new CEO and Executive Director of The Permanente Medical Group and CEO of @MdAtlPermanente. I am filled with optimism and hope for the future of our organizations and American health care.
I don’t know if OAI’s motivation is to create a “regulatory moat”, but it would be the likely outcome.
There are agencies (eg FTC) that regulate the bad business practices that AI will accelerate. The issue is lack of resources for serious enforcement.

Excellent summary around the dynamics of ranking by engagement.
A new note on ranking by engagement tecunningham.github.io/2023-… - six main observations:
(1) Most platforms (FB, IG, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Netflix) rank content by predicted engagement: they'll show you the items most likely to cause you to click, reply, retweet, etc.
Also @TheShubhanshu is looking for roles and I’d snap him up immediately. He’s a talented and humble research who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeve and dive into tough engineering challenges. Also makes great math YouTube videos

This sucks for h1bs or others that can’t leave for reasons
Beyond that, this is good for others. Elon gets team who want or have to stick around and end the tweep vs goon dynamic. Others get incentive to move on. Not optimistic about product direction, but this beats status-quo.
Here’s the text of the email Musk sent to Twitter staff overnight.
Those who don’t commit to being “extremely hardcore” by 5pm ET today must leave the company. ‼️

SF-based, ex-Twitter Cortex Applied Research ML engineer looking for my next role. Love building products, connecting Eng with Research, working with colleagues. Open to full-time or contract. linkedin.com/in/kovas-boguta…
This bit on @jason is 🤌:“Last week, Mr. Musk dispatched a lieutenant to the ‘war room’ to ask Mr. Calacanis, who was there, to cool it on Twitter and stop acting as if he were leading product development or policy, people familiar with the exchange said.”

If you’re looking for an excellent ML EM who is available. Ali is your guy. He’s very strong technically and a great people manager.
Now that my time is ended in the bird factory, let me send some kudos and shoutouts to some awesome #tweeps who made an incredible journey for me.
Tweeps: my DMs are open. Please reach out if you need *anything*.
If you're hiring, I know a lot of great ML folks who are looking.
This populist framing around “blue checks” is bizarre. It’s at best a B-plot line in the right-wing cinematic universe. Is this a grievance most people know or care about?
Verifying more people w/ an open process is a good product change. But it’s being presented by Elon & others as part of a political skirmish between “blue check elites” and everyone else. I don’t think it really explains value and will be bad for biz xitter.cf/davidsacks/status/1588…
I don’t think there is a prettier song than Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You”

New paper (w @aria42) on using Translation Pair Prediction to improve 0-Shot perf. from EN to non-latin langs e.g. HI, JA, AR at #WNUT2021, #EMNLP2021. Improves NER & Sentiment on tweets. We introduce a new translation source via @wikidata

From the Twitter folks (@TheShubhanshu, @aria42): adding translation pair prediction (is pair a translation) loss to mBERT improves orthographically different language (Hindi, Arabic, Japanese) pairs a lot
