French judge Nicolas Gouyou, who issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu at the ICC: • Visa and Mastercard have blocked all my cards • I cannot make any purchases • I am a judge, yet treated like a criminal • Judges, lawyers, and politicians are being intimidated • A colleague told me my name won’t be removed from the blacklist until Trump’s term ends • Despite intervention by the French president, U.S. authorities have not responded

The highest form of pop music is a promise you aren't listening alone Again I'm tempted to point less at the new ability to generate personalized music (unstoppable math) and ask the more uncomfortable question of what was lost by placing the consumer at the center of culture. This Time cover was 20 years ago. It is called You-Tube. The common advice to musicians is that their best hope of finding an audience is getting on someone's playlist. For a lot of people, the idea of personalized music is attractive as they don't know anything different. GenAI is going to shake up the industries that cultivated this perspective on culture and I encourage you to consider the only problem with that is a current lack of imagination of what might take its place
Lead investor of Suno confirming that people who use Suno stop listening to all music that they don't create themselves on-app. Commercial genAI creates cultural isolation, sold to consumers as "personalization."

Thanks @kieranpressreyn for reading my questions about the bandcamp AI ban and following up on them. Their answers confirm my suspicions. “The policy is focused on authorship, not tools: who is doing the creative work, and how that work is presented to fans.” His piece elaborates upon how this doesn’t make things any clearer. This will only become even harder to judge. Thanks for doing journalism! pitchfork.com/thepitch/unpac…
It is necessary to filter soundspam and getting the language right for a policy like this is hard When they say that music "generated wholly or in substantial part by AI" is not welcome, that is understandable in the case of a bot posting 1000 generic songs a day. That is a spam issue. I am also compelled to push back against banning human artists for experimenting with an era defining medium

I received a Suno type ad on YouTube and it started with a guy saying "Let's make an Afrobeat song in 30 seconds..." This is what is wrong with producers today. – at Leander, TX

I support what bandcamp is trying to do They are important and curate their editorial so well. I always disliked streaming and love album culture. Someone commented maybe it is best to first ban all ai and figure it out afterwards. Fine! People are panicked by ai, and most of it is stupid, but I wanted to point out it is not so simple and we should not let a climate of uncertainty lead us to make conservative judgments about who is or is not legitimate

producer x becomes virtuosic with models. He can’t sing or play a traditional instrument so well but like all great producers searches for what he needs to hear and spends months producing a 4 track ep of a new sound. producer y learns on YouTube how to make generic beats from sample packs and pushes out a few a day Whose art is more human and whose art do you want to hear? A lazy assumption with ai is that the laziest people use it, and the most dedicated people use traditional tools that is silly why wouldn’t humans thirsty for new sounds use models that let you infinitely rabbit hole on creating sounds? Are software developers running claude code agents lazy or insatiable? I am insatiable. I want more sounds and opportunities to cut and mutate and intervene

Putting the ban in bandcamp! It is a wicked problem so I understand what they are trying to do. I’m sure the human moderators won’t be banning artists exploring AI, rather I hope will just be looking to filter out soundspam The gray area will only get larger
