The final version of our paper on Drosophila brain endocrine cells is out now in @eLife

Check out the thread from the first author @theresa_mckim here for more details: xitter.cf/theresa_mckim/status/2…
🧠🪰 Excited to share our paper in @eLife detailing the synaptic connectome of the neurosecretory network in Drosophila. We mapped the hormone-releasing neurosecretory cells (NSCs) in the fly brain and their connectivity. 🧵

Proud and excited to share our first preprint 🚀 in which we
• create a high-fitness firewalled organism,
• that stably colonizes the mouse gut for >100 days,
• resists all tested phages in the gut,
• and blocks horizontal gene transfer.
+ Chimera genomes to tailor synthetic

Want to build your own fly simulator on the BANC connectome (the full brain + CNS from a female fly, ~160k neurons)? Here's how. 🧵

thank you! have been a big fan of this field in my sys neuro days, including rachel's work, so wanted to play around :)
It is very cool that the connectome release has drawn people in @nicochristie @BrainsAndTennis , central complex in particular is a beautiful system and fertile ground for theorising.
Modelling the whole fly brain from just the connectome and thinking that reveals something about fly behaviour, is a bit like modelling traffic flow out of Google maps and thinking you understand the world economy. Not unrelated, but not that close.

Congrats on this excellent resource for the connectomics world! For anyone curious, you can explore the MaleCNS data in Codex: codex.flywire.ai/?dataset=mc…
With a new, amazing and full central nervous system fly connectome in the news today for the male, a reminder that there is also a full female central nervous system available! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
For the first time, scientists have mapped the complete brain and central nervous system of an adult male fruit fly — a key model organism in science. 🪰
Working alongside HHMI Janelia Research Campus and the scientific community, @GoogleResearch scientists and researchers used AI to combine millions of 2D images into 3D neural shapes, reconstructing a record-breaking 166,000+ neurons. This foundational map of the adult male fruit fly brain can help accelerate our understanding of the brain, and is a major milestone in neuroscience.

On the cover: the complete connectome of the male adult D. melanogaster central nervous system. The cover depicts a single representative cell from each of the 11,710 neuron types in the dataset, which contains 166,700 neurons in total.

(1/2) When Janelia set out to map every neuron in the fly brain in 2008, many thought it couldn’t be done. Nearly 20 years later, a complete wiring diagram of the 166,000+ neurons of the adult male fruit fly is helping to reveal the brain’s secrets: bit.ly/4zT7jPf.

Happy to share the CA3 dataset is published. First large-scale dense connectomics from hippocampus. First connectomic dataset imaged in @PrincetonNeuro. A harbinger of many larger datasets to come (for both). doi.org/10.1038/s41593-026-0… (1/3)
