Y’all. We are literally witnessing a coup attempt going on live in Brazil. Bolsonaro is losing the election badly, so his people in state and local leadership are grounding flights, canceling public transportation going to Lula strongholds. Massive voter suppression. Supreme Court had to intervene to mandate 2hrs extra at the polls. Mixed reports on how many polling stations are respecting the ruling. Whew!

The Islamic State was a much bigger threat to the region than Hamas. Hamas is an anti-colonial, nationalist militant group that commits atrocities against civilians. It's akin to the Mau Mau in Kenya or Viet Minh in Indochina. It has no ideology of global conquest. ISIS and other Salafi Jihadist groups, conversely, actually want to exterminate the region's minorities and commit terrorist attacks in Europe and the US. ISIS was also much better equipped than Hamas and had far more territory. And - despite the fact that ISIS, unlike Hamas, engaged in actual human shielding - the US/Iraqi Military/Peshmerga killed far fewer civilians in defeating ISIS than the IDF killed civilians in the so-called "war" in Gaza.
Note how ridiculous it is to let a terrorist government like Hamas in Gaza establish the ground rules for military action. Putting it in another context, the US should have allowed Islamic State to set its military policy?

250 families were evacuated in Hebron. The army is destroying their houses. Why? Because 2 Hamas members probably sponsored by people abroad who attacked soldiers came from this neighborhood. What is the children’s fault? What is the women’s fault? What is the innocents’ fault? God please show mercy upon the innocents. 🙏🙏🙏

these people have a metaphysics of impurity that doesn't take into account intention which is very different from the Islamic view. The incidental presence of pork doesn't *by itself* create the impurity except among those who intended to partake
🇰🇷 Muslims try to build a mosque in South Korea. The Koreans hold a pork BBQ in front of it 😂

um yes? I'm surprised this is a question, it was explicitly intended to force a federalized fiscal union, or more precisely, create a gradual tendency to this, in an era when it was believed an inevitable necessity (not unjustifiably)
There is no point to the Eurozone, the Euro was an insane idea from the very beginning. Genuine voodoo economics. The euro only makes sense if you assume the member states will move toward true fiscal unions, maybe the Eurocrats assumed the rubes would have no choice

#ICLR2027 is an eye-opener for our research community. We criticize LLM-written papers for being convoluted, full of jargon, overly defensive, and difficult to understand. But did LLMs create this writing culture, or did they learn it from us?

I know of no other place on earth where the shooting of two soldiers leads to the displacement of 2000 people who had no connection to the shooting other than being in the neighbourhood.

I’m still shocked by the Arday frenzy this summer. Right across the spectrum — from the Times, Unherd, Telegraph, Mail to the Guardian, Novara, Private Eye… based on tenuous assumptions. Left right politics does not explain it. Something deeper, more atavistic and barbaric
The final irony. Hundreds of articles ABOUT Jason Arday - fact-free, poor data analysis, often copying other people's work/ A couple of articles BY Jason Arday - a few corrections, and still supported by academic publishers and peer review. Just tragic bias by our media

Barely two months ago, we lost Professor Jason Arday. Thousands grieved. Institutions across higher education spoke about inclusion and belonging. Now Nathan Cofnas is being given a room at Oriel College, Oxford, to ask whether DEI is undermining higher education. 🧵

My great grandfather is 87 and the only living survivor of the Nakba in our family. I grew up with his stories. About his village, the lemon orchard, the sea, the Shia shrine and how one day the Israeli army came and told them to leave. Last night the Israeli army came again, and once again told Palestinians to leave. I saw women and children, leaving their houses with whatever they can carry. And I thought about my great grandfather and how he probably felt 78 years ago. 😔😔😔

for some reason I can't reply to Djamé...but only 5?
Dear #CDG travelers, don’t ever get a fucking expresso (noisette) at the French Taste and sit. They charge 5€ for it. Without announcing the price or anything. 5€… no wonder there’s a revolution coming. Prices at airports are a racket and it’s @ParisAeroport’s fault.

Imagine going through the last 3 years in the US, watching Gaza, the collapse of the Biden presidency, the Harris defeat, the DNC autopsy, the campus protests, this year’s insane primary results, the Iran war that followed and is ongoing, the endless ink spilled in column inches, the historic and unprecedented swing in public opinion, and then suggesting Gaza wasn’t a huge issue *in American politics* and the Syrian civil war was a bigger deal for America. You have to really be in an insane, pro-Israel establishment bubble. Or just be a liar.
The idea that Gaza was one of the biggest FP issues for America just goes to show how the focus on Israel/ Palestine has broken the left. Gaza wasn't the biggest issue in the MIDDLE EAST: that would be the Syrian civil war. Gaza pales in comparison to Ukraine as well
