As we continue our celebrations of #AntimatterDay, tell us what you know about #antimatter? ⚪⚫ These unique characters created by @STFC_Matters will tell you more! #UKatCERN #AntimatterDay2023

Today is #AntimatterDay! With the help of our familiar #DarkMatter face we're going to share some differences between the two. 🔍 Whilst we don't know much about Dark Matter yet, we do know plenty about antimatter. 👍 🧵1/5
A single panel comic, showing five antimatter particles depicted as grey balls with legs and wearing dark grey masks. The characters are glaring, holding signs up between them in a comedic depiction of a protest. One holds a sign saying 'Matter doesn't matter', another holds a placard saying 'I'm anti matter', and another holds another placard saying 'Down with matter.' Behind these three are the two final characters holding a large sign between them, saying "Antimatter Day 2023." Behind this sign at the very top-right hand corner is a familiar face from our previous Dark Matter Day comic - the Dark Matter Character. It's a small, dark brown blob with a network of energy rippling through it; it's little eyes peeking over the top of the antimatter day sign, gazing in a curious way down at the antimatter particles below.

Last week our Physics students visited the largest antimatter lab in the world at CERN near Geneva. This experiment aims to detect differences in gravitational acceleration for antimatter, which has never been done before. Fascinating!

NEWS FLASH! It’s not a dislike of “hard maths” that puts girls off studying or pursuing careers in maths + physics. It’s outdated and damaging stereotypes that close doors on many talented girls and women. Ready to hear about some of our most inspiring women physicists? 🧵
