.@PolitiFact will have more to say on this. But these are my thoughts. This decision has nothing to do with free speech or censorship. (PolitiFact is an original partner and has been working on this project for 8+ years).
Replying to @brianstelter
"We're going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes, similar to X, starting in the U.S," Mark Zuckerberg announces
Pining for the days when people considered the meaning of their words... Whatever the proposal is, it isn't $250,000 in tax relief.
50 years ago today, @Poynter launched to champion the craft and social purpose of journalism. At a time when economic and political pressures are squeezing the news, Poynter continues to stand out – and stand up.

So far this week, PolitiFact has fact-checked Meta posts, including:
•A False claim from Threads that "22 states will not be certifying the election."
•A False claim from Facebook that "a second attack in New Orleans has been uncovered, police are searching."
•A viral image that falsely claimed to show a child who was "found" by police in numerous locations, including Semmes, Alabama; Wayne County, West Virginia; and Baldwin County, Georgia.

Watching @RobinRoberts mention @TheAlligator reporters on Good Morning America this morning was incredible. Thank you @Poynter for the invite to your Bowtie Ball, and thank you Robin for the selfie I can’t stop smiling at. I don’t know where I’d be without journalism.❤️

I'm returning to @CNN in a brand new role as Chief Media Analyst. I'll be appearing on TV, developing digital content, and once again helming the Reliable Sources newsletter.
Doom-and-gloom narratives in the journalism industry that cherry pick stories of vulture capitalists, job loss and print closures are incomplete or out of date, painting an inaccurate picture of a news and information ecosystem on life support. poynter.org/onpoynt-report/
5. Trust erodes all around us — yet, trust is an unreliable guide. Journalists and creators succeed (and fail) based on the quality and durability of relationships they build with those they serve.
@Poynter will be talking a lot more about this report in the coming weeks, including tomorrow, when we'll host roundtable discussions with a great group of journalists, creators and thought leaders.
