Their ancestors endured generations of religious persecution in Europe before seeking refuge on these shores.
Their commitment to faith, family, community, and freedom of conscience is part of America's heritage.
We must protect their religious liberty.

The petition asks whether New York's law violates the Free Exercise Clause as applied to the Amish, and whether Employment Division v. Smith should be reconsidered.
New York's response is due Nov. 2.
These families built their own schools, pay for them themselves, and ask the state for one thing: to be left alone.
A government that can't leave the Amish alone won't leave anyone alone.
