In this paper, we used data from MaNGA to look for things like Hanny's voorwerp in post-starburst galaxies, finding 6 in the 93 galaxies we looked at! This lets us constrain the AGN duty cycle and how many post-starburst galaxies might have just-missed AGN activity.

Especially compared to the timescales we see the stellar populations evolve. But sometimes, we can see *past* AGN activity in systems like Hanny's voorwerp (image credit: WIYN/William Keel/Anna Manning), which often show AGN in the process of fading.

In this paper, we ask the question: if AGN feedback is supposed to be quenching galaxies, why do we see so few AGN in quenching galaxies? One reason why its tricky to associate AGN with their impact of galaxies is that the timescales for AGN to vary are extremely short.

New Paper Day! arxiv.org/abs/2304.10419 I'm especially happy to see this one out in the world both scientifically (an idea I've been trying to implement for a long time) and because it involves contributions from my new research group at UIUC!

IDEAS aims to pair undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups in Astrophysics with faculty research mentors -- underrepresented is defined broadly (a non-exhaustive list would include students who are Black, Hispanic, Native American, and/or Women)

Now, this is a story all about how A star got ripped-up, strewn around When it wandered by a not-so big black hole In centre of its small dwarf galaxy home 🧵👇
New result from our @astro_angus and YSE collaborators, incl. @WSUPullman @ucsctransients @UofIllinois @UniMelb: A ripped up star reveals an elusive type of black hole hiding in the centre of a small galaxy nature.com/articles/s41550-0…

A very special @AstroOnTapCU this Friday! Part of @thisispygmalion.
Some local analogs are NGC 1266 (@astrokatey 's paper s), M51b (although somewhat lower mass), and a handful of other "spogalogs" like IC860 (forthcoming results by Yuanze Luo: aasnova.org/2022/01/11/virtu…)

Astronomy if we could just know the true star formation rate of things for a fact. [This paper and thread are very interesting and very 👀👀👀]
Thread on a few recent post-starburst galaxy papers to come out. Dalya Baron led a paper out today (arxiv.org/abs/2204.11881) where we look at the total IR - based SFRs for several samples of PSB galaxies.
