Clarification on E20 petrol: Reports of 26–31% ethanol content at certain Karnataka fuel outlets are not supported by testing conducted as per prescribed standards.
All 893 samples tested across 27 States and UTs, including 56 from Karnataka, were found compliant with the prescribed 19–21% ethanol range.
IOCL, BPCL and HPCL have sought transparent, joint testing with the State Government to ensure an independent and scientifically verifiable assessment.

Recent claims of excessive ethanol blending at certain retail outlets in Karnataka are not supported by testing conducted through prescribed procedures.
All 893 samples tested across 27 States and UTs, including 56 from Karnataka, were found to be within the prescribed 19–21% ethanol range.
IndianOil, along with BPCL and HPCL, has sought joint, transparent testing with the State Government to establish the facts.

#Karnataka govt’s tests of 63 petrol samples across seven districts have found #ethanol content exceeding the 20% limit, with IOCL samples recording 31.2% and HPCL 30.5%. #Bengaluru was among the districts where violations were detected.
Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister @ArshadRizwan Arshad has demanded action against oil companies, an E20 compensation fund for consumers facing mileage loss and vehicle damage, mandatory disclosure of ethanol content at fuel pumps and the option to buy E10 petrol.
The state will send its report to the Centre.
