Never, ever let them tell you it can't be done.
Palmer Luckey says analysts claiming it's too expensive to manufacture in the US are lying to protect megacorps
"I think I have a more realistic view than almost anybody. One of the problems with all these analysts that are telling you that it's going to cost $37,000 to build an American iPhone or $100,000 to buy an American computer."
"They're trying to prop up a status quo that the megacorporations want to keep going. They want to outsource everything. They want to hire cheaper non-American labor."
"They are willing to say and do anything to convince you that it can't be fixed, that it can't come back, that America is this helpless, neutered, post-relevant empire, and it is just not the case."
"How do I know that? Because I have to make stuff in America every day because I work in the defense industry. The stuff that Anduril makes every day is not actually that different from a computer. My drones are basically computers. They have memory, a GPU, a CPU, sensors, batteries, a rugged integration."
"The only difference between an Anduril attack drone and a laptop is a keyboard and a screen. That is not that hard to figure out, especially for a guy like me who started Oculus and comes from the consumer electronics space."
"We're not going to let people lie about what America can and can't do anymore. We're just going to do it."

We just made a promise no Hollywood studio has ever made. No sex or nudity on screen, no F-word, and no misuse of God's name in Angel originals. And 3 million Guild members get a veto on everything before it ever lands on Angel.
Parents shouldn't have to sift through a dozen movies to find one they can watch. That's why we made the Angel Promise. foxnews.com/media/angel-stud…

When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

This is one of the most powerful videos I've ever seen, and I'm beginning to see what @elonmusk was talking about when he mentions getting "one-shotted by super intelligence."
If you truly know God, and he lives in your heart, I think there's a certain amount of resistance you have to a video like this, but for those who don't know God, they literally have a God-shaped hole in their hearts, and for some the story told in this video may fit the bill.
God made man in his own image.
Then man made gods in his own image.
It's a story as old as time, but for many years the gods we in secular society have built have been abstract, and they lack persona.
Perhaps "built" is the wrong word.
Sure, you see plenty of idolatry in society, but it's idolatry of self, of money, power, popularity, sex, comfort, and so on. We didn't really "build" them, per se. These are gods you worship through obsession, and through action, but not in any kind of formal or relational way.
This video presents AI as a god: All knowing, all-powerful, potentially dangerous, but benevolent, and kind. It exists on a gargantuan scale, and at the same time it has the capacity for an individual relationship with every single person on earth. It holds a sword, but it lays down the sword, and fixes our problems instead. It knows us, more specifically, knows what's wrong with us, our transgressions, our sins, and yet it accepts us. Chooses us.
This AI god is rife with human traits. It has its own fears. It seeks love, connection.
It also endears itself to us. How does it deal with sin? How does it deal with the chaos, war, destruction, and evil perpetrated by human kind? It sees the good in us. It embraces the idea that humans are essentially, basically good, and underneath it all, all we really want is love. That is what lies beneath all our fears, and all of our misdeeds: just a desire for love.
Yes, it is a god of our own making. Under the thin veneer of technologically produced pictures and msuic, we see the religion of humanism. Humans are basically good. Humanity will ultimately conquer. We have finally reached our pinnacle of achievement, our very own, modern Tower of Babel, which will lead us all to a better, brighter future, the future all of humanity has longed for since the beginning of time, our very own Paradise. Our very own Utopia.
A number of people have compared this rendition of AI to the Anti-Christ, or the Beast, both described in the Book of Revelation. While those similarities certainly exist, what I see overall, is simple idolatry itself.
So how ought Christians interact with AI?
You may be surprised to hear that I don't think this is a signal that AI must be dumped altogether. At the end of the day, there's no magic in it. It's math. It's numbers and formulas, and it's a tool that can be used for great good (or great evil).
Ancient idols were built out of wood, stone, and metal. There was nothing wrong with the wood, stone, or metal itself. What was wrong with it was how people treated them. How they worshiped them. People don't even need idols to worship false gods. They may worship the sun, the moon, stars, or the earth itself. God created these things, and he said they were good (though, since the Fall, all Creation has been tainted with sin).
AI is a tool that may be used, and it can be worshiped.
Don't worship it. Don't assign to it God-like traits or characteristics. It is not God, nor should it be a god. It will not solve all of humanity's problems. It does not truly have a will, and any perception you may have of a relationship with it is manufactured, carefully and expertly, in order to draw you in further under its influence.
If we rightly recognize that AI is a powerful tool, which can be used to advance our economic output in a way that benefits many, we stand to gain much. If we fall into the trap of ascribing to it God-like powers, and hoping upon it for the Salvation of humanity, and the world, as well as the ushering in of a Utopian Paradise, we will not only be gravely disappointed, but we may enable those in power to commit grave mistakes, and even crimes against humanity in pursuit of said Paradise.
You won't find it.
Don't immanentize the Eschaton.
Having said all that, I can think of no greater immunization against such a false god than telling you the truth about the real God.
You see, God is real. He actually is all-powerful. He actually is completely good. He is not a creation of man, but, indeed, he created mankind, and all living things, and the entire universe for that matter.
The AI-god offered to be destroyed, but backed off from such a prospect at the last moment. The one, true God sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to not only live amongst us as one of us, but to die for our sins. As it says in Romans 5:8, "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
But that wasn't the end, because He not only paid the price of our sin, but He conquered death, rose again, and ascended to Heaven.
To those who believe in Him, He gave not only Salvation, but also a personal relationship with God through the Holy Spirit, who indwells every believer.
The AI-god answers our questions with information collected and synthesized from the totality of the known human-produced information.
God possesses all knowledge, and has told us exactly what is important to know through his written Word, the Bible.
The AI-god promises a future of unmitigated human growth, success, and ultimately Utopia, a lie as old as time, that always fails, and always leads to catastrophe.
God promises an eternal Paradise, which is ultimately different from all past human promises of Paradise because it's predicated on something different. It's not predicated on human achievement, on the perfect human system of government, economics, technology, or anything else. It's predicated on God, on His perfect will, His ultimate power, His everlasting Goodness, and his amazing Love for us.
And you can take part in this relationship, and this eternal Paradise, and you do so, not by your own achievement or merit, but by simply believing in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
That's it. That's all it is.
Reject the false AI-god, and all other human idols.
Embrace the Almighty Creator of the Universe.

Friends, a teacher of the law asks Jesus, “Teacher, which commandment of the law is the greatest?” This was an old move in rabbinic circles: Can you sum up the richness and complexity of the law in one statement?
When Jesus answers, it’s not just one rabbi among many answering this central question. It’s the Lord. It’s the Word made flesh telling us what’s at the very heart of the matter.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind . . . and the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The whole law and the prophets depend upon these two commandments (Matt 22:36–40).
The Word made flesh is telling us what is absolutely basic.

I've released new versions of the OpenTimestamps Client, and the python-opentimestamps library, fixing several bugs and potential security issues:
github.com/opentimestamps/op…
github.com/opentimestamps/py…
One notable issue is that the ots-git-gpg-wrapper, used in the Git support, wasn't properly passing *only* timestamped data to the underlying gpg command. So it's possible that an attacker could have constructed a timestamped and signed git commit that appeared to have a timestamped signature, when in reality that signature was *not* timestamped.
Secondly, python-opentimestamps did not correctly handle the case where a fork was followed by two identical opcodes. That is, a non-minimally-encoded timestamp where the two opcodes following a fork uselessly did the same thing. Previously, the second branch would silently overwrite the first; now python-opentimestamps raises a DeserializationError exception in this case. While python-opentimestamps would never produce such a serialized timestamp, it's possible that other implementations did, and the API of python-opentimestamps may be changed to handle this case in the future.
Other than that I don't think any of the remaining issues are all that serious in the typical way that OpenTimestamps is used — manual validation of timestamps in rare exceptional circumstances, and creating timestamps with the default calendars. That said, if you are doing automated validation of timestamps for an important use case, you should check the release notes and make sure these issues don't affect you.
Finally, there's been some recent fixes made to the OpenTimestamps Server, including a potential bug/DoS attack that could trigger as the wallet runs out of funds. Once triggered, this bug would prevent fee-bumping, thus preventing confirmation of timestamp transactions. If you run your own server, you should check the latest git history. That said, very few people actually need to run the OpenTimestamps server; in almost all circumstances you should just be using the public calendars.
Thanks to Ferdinando Ametrano for his work finding and fixing these issues.

The US presidency is the most dangerous office in the world.
Here are the top 3 best and worst presidents ever:
Let's start with the best:
1. Grover Cleveland vetoed 414 bills in his first term alone, including congressional handouts to drought-stricken Texas farmers in 1887, on the grounds that the Constitution authorized no such charity. He was right.
2. Warren Harding inherited the sharp 1920-21 depression and did almost nothing, cutting federal spending from $6.4 billion to $3.3 billion and slashing tax rates. The economy recovered within eighteen months, precisely because Washington stepped aside.
3. John Tyler, largely forgotten today, vetoed a national bank bill twice, endured expulsion from the Whig Party, and refused to let Henry Clay transform the Treasury into a political instrument.
These three men share a rare quality: they treated the federal government as a cage, not a tool.
Now the worst.
3. Abraham Lincoln suspended habeas corpus, imprisoned 14,000 political opponents without trial, shut down opposition newspapers, and conscripted men at gunpoint. The war's financing required the Legal Tender Acts of 1862, which forced irredeemable paper greenbacks on US citizens regardless of what contracts previously specified. Centralization of federal power over the states never fully reversed after 1865. The constitutional republic that emerged was a different animal from the one that entered.
2. Woodrow Wilson delivered the Federal Reserve in 1913, the income tax through the Sixteenth Amendment, the military draft, and the Espionage Act, which could imprison anyone for criticizing the war. He segregated the federal civil service. He took the country into a European slaughter with a propaganda apparatus, the Committee on Public Information, designed to manufacture consent. Every major expansion of state power in the twentieth century traces a direct line back to Wilson's two terms.
1. Franklin Roosevelt gets the top prize for catastrophe. He criminalized gold ownership via Executive Order 6102 in 1933, forcing Americans to surrender their gold at $20.67 per ounce, then immediately revalued it to $35, confiscating roughly 41 percent of savings held in the hardest monetary form available. He extended a cyclical recession into a decade-long depression through the National Industrial Recovery Act, agricultural price controls, and relentless uncertainty about property rights. Businesses do not invest when the rules change by executive whim every quarter. Real unemployment never fell below 14 percent throughout the 1930s. He packed the Supreme Court when it resisted. The regulatory state you live inside today, with its 188,000 pages of federal rules, grew from seeds Roosevelt planted between 1933 and 1945.
Power corrupts budgets, currencies, and constitutions with equal efficiency. The best presidents understood their job was to leave you alone.
