Can you point to one of these 14 Tory years when Labour said: look you’re borrowing too much, borrow less.
Under the last government, the UK borrowed more than the G7 average in every one of their 14 years. This year? The UK will borrow less. For this week’s edition of Charting the Course - how Labour is getting the UK’s fiscal house in order. torstenbell.substack.com/p/f…

There’s not much to be said for almost 30 years of devolution but it has allowed for a massive real-time experiment in school systems. Starting with Thatcher, continued by Major, Blair and Brown, given huge boost under Cameron-Gove-Gibb, English schools saw major reforms — academies, free schools etc. Scottish schools stayed totally comprehensive under the dead hand of socialism/nationalism. No variety in state system. But lots more money. Ditto Welsh schools. Results are in and they couldn’t be clearer — English state schools have powered ahead, Scottish and Welsh schools have fallen back into mediocrity or worse. Scottish/Welsh pols too blinkered to learn the lessons so more decline beckons. What is unforgivable is that the current Labour government under two appalling education secretaries — Lucy Powell and Bridget Phillipson — want to roll back all the progress that’s been made in England to appease the hard-left teaching unions and the left-wing Blob.
Breaking. PISA results for 2025 show Scottish pupils are more than a year behind their English peers for maths and science. Also behind on reading. (20 points is equivalent of a year of schooling) 1/4

Canada is saying today that 'no deal is better than a bad deal' in response to what it views as unacceptable sovereignty-breaching demands from the federal union of member states to its south and east.

Just spent 2 hours glued to my phone reading all 162 pages of this judgement. Some absolutely incredible stuff in here. Each sentence more unbelievable than the last. Cambridge University can be very thankful most people won’t take the time to read it. Disgraceful behaviour.
Cambridge University just can’t catch a break Another cycle of damaging stories begins -- this time retaliation against a whistleblower Foolish for University to fight this case in Tribunal Even more foolish to expose its Vice-Chancellor timeshighereducation.com/new…

This is going to end so badly for Birmingham police. They could've apologised after seeing the footage, but they *instinctively* lied in an attempt to save their own backsides. And what I find absolutely disgusting is they're perfectly happy to punish an innocent victim and ruin his life in the process. You are going to get sued. And you're going to lose. You absolutely disgust me. Whoever decided to take this course of action should be sacked for corruption. West Midlands police is completely broken.
Replying to @BrumPolice
The incident has been reviewed, and we have no concerns over the officer's actions and we are satisfied that they were reasonable and proportionate in the circumstances. We would ask that footage is not further shared to allow the legal process to take its course.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The footage in question disproves the Police’s account of the incident. It is in the public interest for it to shared far and wide to ensure a just outcome for the male who has been arrested, and aid him with any civil action he may wish to take against the Police. x.com/re_mi_gra_tion…

Two-tier policing is out of control. The arrest of a white lad in Birmingham who had just been assaulted by a group of black men was a sickening spectacle. Cops have become the armed wing of wokeness, the enforcers of anti-whiteness, says Brendan O’Neill buff.ly/92ntQQf

Imagine having a Prime Minister who could do some basic statistics, read a balance sheet, spot a logical fallacy, grasp a Cochrane review, and knew the laws of thermodynamics. Any of these things would have been a thousand times more valuable over the UK's last two lost decades.
imagine having a prime minister who actually has an appreciation for literature and the arts and not one who says “The Traitors” is his favourite film

Could you ask your Labour colleagues who sent their kids to independent schools, why they did so. Could you ask the others, who can afford to avoid sink State schools by buying expensive homes near good state schools, why they did so. Could you ask yourself why no other European country taxes education. And could you then give your head a rattle: parents who elect to pay tens of thousands of pounds to educate their kids shouldn’t be demonised, but celebrated. They save the State the trouble of educating their kids, while still paying taxes as if the State was picking up the tab. Your vindictive VAT rise has closed more than 100 private schools, some centuries old. There is nothing noble about your self-justifying ideological vandalism.
Note to all the pearl-clutching Tories out in force today… You don’t HAVE to send your kids to private school. We have universal education provision in this country. If you *choose* to do so, the rest of us shouldn’t pay for you to have a tax break for the privilege.

Did you compose that on your way over from New York in your private jet?
I’ve just arrived in London where a severe heatwave is projected with all its dramatic consequences It's become increasingly evident that climate change is no longer a distant threat. We feel its effects now. My message at London #ClimateAction Week: More than ever we must accelerate the transition to clean energy.

“No mandate. Nobody voted for this.” Your words, @AngelaRayner. I assume you will be calling for a General Election once the new Labour leader is in place?
