People are missing the point of Ginux. I didn’t create another kernel to compete with Linux. That is idiotic! In fact I consider the code disposable. Think about that… Ginux wasn’t the product. The development process was the experiment. The kernel was the evidence. Could AI, directed by an experienced engineer, could build and validate an extraordinarily complex software system. In just 11 days, I produced an independent kernel capable of booting Rocky Linux 10 with systemd. That was the experiment. And while Ginux isn’t a complete Linux aligned kernel, the experiment is complete. The research paper documents the methodology, results, and limitations. Since publishing, people have started finding bugs and security issues. That’s fantastic! Independent review is exactly how complex software gets better. There has already been an initial security review, and there’s a remediation plan sitting in context that I’m considering implementing. So the question is, since the experiment is complete, do I even do anything further here? Maybe there is an interesting experiment in measuring how efficiently human-directed AI can fix the problems external reviewers discover? How much time does it take to reproduce an issue, identify the root cause, implement a fix, and validate the result? How much human intervention is actually required? That’s potentially an even more interesting situation than the original 11-day experiment. Because the real question was never whether AI could replace Linux. Even if it can replace some aspects of its functionality, it can’t replicate the community, standards, collaboration, alignment, or stability. If you still believe that Ginux was designed to be a Linux replacement, you should read the actual paper. zenodo.org/records/23682548
The creator of CentOS and Rocky Linux built a new OS kernel with AI in just 11 days. It’s called Ginux, and it can already run selected Linux programs without the Linux kernel underneath. Gregory Kurtzer guided the design while Codex wrote and tested around 139,000 lines of code. Written mainly in Rust, Ginux has its own memory management, scheduler and networking. It even boots Rocky Linux 10 with systemd in a virtual machine. It’s still an experimental prototype, with incomplete compatibility and hardware support. The code is open source under Apache 2.0. Eleven days to get this far. Now comes the harder part of making it reliable. Source: github.com/gmkurtzer/ginux

It's more of an abstraction designed for libraries actually. The best react apps I've ever written rarely use useState or useEffect

There must exists an app with PHP, deployed on Railway, with calls to cURL, with other services written in node that use Brotli compression running on a couple day old Linux, with their code self managed on GitLab They are having a hell of a week

there are certain social behaviors that are illegal for Whites and we adhere to these bc of who we are as a people and seeing the amount of foreigners in our country and how they completely disregard these unspoken rules has regressed our entire society.

Many women chafed and tore down those barriers during the latter half of the 20th century. Turns out, those fences were up for very good reasons. Chesterton is almost always right.

That's why Tobi is the CEO, not a random employee. This idea that a private company should be a small "democracy" and hierarchy shouldn't exist is total bs. I run my companies the same way. I make the calls, my AI agents/employees execute. I don't involve them in the decisions and I don't expect them to particularly care - I pay them to do a job and they get it done. Bad/good decisions are on me, for better or for worse.
Yep. Except: 1. This was about important internal tools. The team was stuck in some architecture nightmare of their own doing (writing it in rails but headless, with graphql api, and a SPA react app, constantly needing frontend engineers for changes). I call this kind of thing 'cosplaying an enterprise production app'. All that complexity was in the way and using straight rails was perfect in that case. 2. I make calls like this all the time. Usually someone on the team asks me to. They see what needs to happen but don’t want to be the bad guy. I’m happy to just make the call if I agree with the premise. Saves enormous amounts of meetings and change management etc. Sometimes this is jokingly referred to as Founder-mode-as-a-service here. 3. For ten years I’ve also run an internal podcast called Context, where I revisit decisions like these and explain the reasoning so everyone can learn from them. This is helpful to give people all the variables that were considered and why this was the choice made given the information available at the time. I want to teach how to make such decisions effectively without needing me. Sunk cost fallacy is a problem. 4. Any notions that Shopify is succcessful despite of me doing this, instead of because of it, will have a hard time making their argument come together I think 😄 the part of 'two weeks later tobi learns about...' is nonsese and the pivot of that project up there happens one of the more successful examples of interventions. But getting the company to work effectively with great architecture and low technical debt baggage into the right direction is literally the job, so guilty as charged I suppose. But there are always cope stories floating around like this because they are more fun, than saying 'somehow we needed tobi to stop doing silly architecture astronautics'. I can totally see that.

Before, running a remote MCP server meant managing session state, which limited where you could run it. Now that MCP is stateless, you can deploy on serverless and edge infrastructure, or scale horizontally behind any load balancer.

GOG has officially confirmed that GOG Galaxy is coming to Linux. The company has hired a dedicated Linux developer and is actively working on the launcher, there’s no release date or timeline yet. Linux users have relied on third-party launchers or compatibility tools to access their GOG libraries. An official launcher should make things much easier with features like: -Native game downloads and updates -Cloud saves -Achievement syncing -Friend lists and social features -Better support for Linux and devices like the Steam Deck
