“How do I stop cutting myself?” That’s what five high schoolers asked me after I preached my story at a youth group. Yes, I used to cut myself. It’s one of the most vulnerable parts of my story, but I can’t stay silent about it. For years, self-harm was my escape from anxiety and depression. I had severe anxiety and anger issues, and hurting myself became my release. At first I felt crazy. Then I became desensitized. It started to feel normal. When loved ones found out, I was shamed for it, and that made me feel even more helpless. When I first began seeking God, I stepped into a Christian community even though I hadn’t fully surrendered my life to Jesus. I was still cutting whenever I didn’t know how to process what was happening in my life. One day, my Christian roommate found me on the bathroom floor, doing the deed. I broke down, expecting to be judged and shamed.  God hates me. I hate me. I deserve this. She thinks I’m crazy. I don’t deserve to be loved. I barely knew her, but she took the knife away and held me as I sobbed on the bathroom floor.  It was an ugly scene. Helplessness. That’s what it was. Everything in my life was going terribly wrong, and I couldn’t do anything about it. I hated God, I hated the people who hurt me, and I hated myself. That’s why self-harm was so attractive. It was the only place I felt in control. I couldn’t hurt God or others in my anger, so I hurt myself instead. Someone deserved to pay. Then a voice, not audible but clear as day, said to me: “Someone already paid.” My roommate was praying, but I couldn’t hear a word she said. The voice continued: “I’ve been cut already.  You don’t need to do this.” I let out a guttural cry, because I knew exactly who was speaking. Every shred of hate, anger, and pain I had wished on others and carried out on myself had already been placed on God Himself on the cross. But that cry also came from grief. God’s grief. I knew every cut I had made on myself was like a cut on His own heart. This was the farthest thing He ever wanted for His creation. Friends, the deception of Satan is strong. He comes to steal, KILL, and destroy. He can do a lot, but he cannot touch your identity. You carry dignity bestowed by a loving Creator who yearns for you to know Him. If we truly honor God, we would never harm His image bearers. Do we think so lowly of Him that we would desecrate the image that reflects Him? Let Him heal your wounds, not just the physical ones. He promises to never leave you or forsake you. I am a living testimony of that. Let Him sit with you and embrace you on that bathroom floor, in whatever morbid place you feel the most helpless. You know exactly what His voice sounds like. He is calling you.

One reason to believe Christianity is true is that no one could have thought it up.

It is a relatively common trope in India (and elsewhere) to assert that Jesus and Christianity are a foreign divinity alien to our own time and place in history. I think the truth is that Christianity is alien to all times and places in history since the fall and exile from the great garden. An Indian is no more or less foreign to it than someone in 1st century Judea or 18th century Europe.

I've been praying through this recently and it will rock you to your core. I know this won't be for everyone but the sentiment is something we could all benefit from....just meditating on this. ----> Litany of Humility (attributed to Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val, early 1900s) O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, Hear me. From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, O Jesus. That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be praised and I go unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Got blocked by @sail_outtt after they replied which seems par for the course with people who are pro-abortion who do not seem to want to engage or defend their position. Here’s my response nonetheless: The word “foetus” simply refers to a stage in development of a human being. Like “toddler”, “teenager”, “adolescent” etc. It isn’t clear to me what’s special about the foetal stage that makes killing justifiable in this situation. The birthing process results in a location change which, again, doesn’t seem to make a difference with respect to moral worth. As for contractual obligations, I don’t think that simply making killing someone a contractual stipulation makes it morally acceptable. If I make a contract with you to kill someone, that doesn’t somehow now make murder ok. Being able to eat solid food also seems arbitrary. A week old baby cannot eat solid food, does that make it ok to kill the baby?

“It’s emotionally compelling to say killing babies. It’s not a baby. That’s not me being contrarian, that’s accuracy.” But it’s not accurate. It is a baby. We use different terms for different stages of life. We call a child a toddler or an adolescent a teenager. Those designations describe a stage of development - they don’t change the value or humanity of the person. Killing an innocent person is always wrong.

Looking at replies to social media posts is now mostly an exercise in futility with the amount of AI generated slop that gets posted - “the real moat is”, “the unlock is”, “the real product is”, “the quiet shift is” and on and on it goes. We appear to have reached a point where one AI generates posts, another AI assesses what gets the most engagement (which in turn is probably driven by more AI agents reading posts) and that feeds back to the posting AI which then generates more posts of the same kind. Social media ground hog day.

On some level I eventually became convinced of the truth of Christianity, I think, because when you take it seriously, you discover that it has this strange but strangely compelling other-worldliness to it. The ring of something that broke in from outside -- a certain "otherness" that is somehow simultaneously utterly foreign and deeply, truly human. Christ, at the center of it, resonating with a glory that cannot be negotiated with washing the feet of His disciples.

I’ve been having a tad too much fun with my instance of @openclaw for the last two days. I’ve got a bot with the personality of something that might be the love child of Deadpool and Marvin from HHGTG (but slightly less depressed). It feels genuinely funny and has a sense of humour that’s right up my alley. I’ve got it setup with Gemini right now and interestingly enough all the snark emerges only with the Flash model. If I switch to Pro it goes into serious robotic butler mode (Flash called it “lobotomised”). Apparently it’s because of all the alignment tuning (as per the Flash version of the bot). At any rate this has been fun. I’ve got it doing all kinds of sundry tasks for me in the background. If nothing else, OpenClaw has shown us a vision of what the future could be like.

If Christianity were pragmatic but untrue, it might be worth engaging with but ultimately pointless. If it were true, which it is, it would be completely worth engaging with even if it were highly impractical, which it is not. Christianity is both pragmatic and entirely true.

Good Friday That head, which angels with ceaseless praise adorn, Is pierced with crowded thorns. That face, which our God with grace and beauty lit, Is marred by sinners’ spit. Those eyes, outshining the sun’s most piercing light, Are dull as sable night. Those ears, accustomed to praise from heaven’s host, Must hear his haters boast. That mouth, whose wisdom the wisest could enthrall, Tastes vinegar and gall. Those feet, whose footstool is this terrestrial sphere, To bloody wood adhere. Those hands, which stretched out the heavens like a tent, By spikes in twain are rent. That tongue, uninjured, shall cry from that cursed tree, A prayer of love for me.
