Of course they can. Irish citizens of Britain are equal citizens but nobody would countenance a coalition with Sinn Fein. Israelis do not want a government with Islamists or Arab nationalist communists.

גוש נתניהו ירד מ-64 (שנבע בעיקר משריפת קולות של מרצ) ל-55 ואיבד את הרוב, אבל לגוש האופוזיציה גם אין דרך להרכיב ממשלה, אפילו בשיתוף רע"ם.

הוא פשוט עמד שם מפסיד, הכריז שניצח, הבטיח שיקים ממשלת מיעוט בתמיכת הערבים (כולל המשותפת לפי הסקרים שהיו לו כבר) כדי להדיח את נתניהו, תוך כדי קריאה לאי ציות לנתניהו של מוסדות הביטחון.

Israel is allowing Arabs who openly dedicate winning a seat in the knesset to Gazans. They're allowing Arabs who refuse to recognise Hamas as a terrorist organisation to run for and win seats in parliament.
Israel, as I previously warned, is the most woke, suicidal nation in the Middle East.
To this very day, Israel is pretty much the only country that hasn't proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood, the organisation that gave birth to Hamas.
This is the very definition of suicide.
It won't be long before another October 7th, thanks to the courts and political judges who think they live in Switzerland not the Middle East.

Here's a video from Israel's first election campaign in 1949 as a reminder that:
1. It's the 10th oldest continuous democracy with full universal suffrage from its first day, including Arab citizens it just fought in war.
2. There have been no military coups, civil wars, emergency governments, suspensions of political or civil liberties, or canceling of elections, surviving even the assassination of a prime minister.
3. It's the only independent democratic state created after WWII to never fall, even temporarily, into some kind of authoritarianism.
4. When you were referring to people living in Palestine pre-1948 you were referring to Jews who were working to reconstitute their state from 2,000 years prior, and succeeded. Big time.
