This morning, Jordan was finally able to determine the Karak church attackers location, and special forces stormed their hideout at dawn, three days after the attack took place. Three perpetrators are wounded. For now no further info on exact affiliations. newarab.com/news/jordan-arre…

Well said. Christians are not immigrants in the region; they are indigenous and owe their existence to no one.
I am absolutely disgusted by those who say letting Christians live in the Middle East is a form of “tolerance”. You tolerate undesirable things. Christians ARE the Middle East. They are Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon and everywhere else. Christians are us.

We are in unprecedented territory here. Algeria’s deployment is not likely to *just* focus on oil facilities, though. So keep that in mind.

Today, Algerian parliament voted in favor of deploying Algerian military to Niger, allegedly to defend oil facilities some of which are jointly operated by Algerian state companies. Again, unprecented, even if scope is limited,we will see where exactly they will station.
Amid rumors of an unprecedented Algerian base in Niger, there seems to be a crisis ongoing within AES, with Burkina Faso being clear outlier. For now only signs, but ever since Traoré apparently refused to help during the Niamey coup, welcomed Israeli diplomat, tensions are stark.

📌 Energy Ministry sources told Levant24 that the Syrian Petroleum Company has abolished its Executive Support, Transport, and Tracking Department, transferring its employees, including department head Majed Al-Hadid, to the ministry’s payroll as part of an administrative restructuring. 📌 The restructuring comes amid scrutiny of oil contracts under former CEO Yusuf Qiblawi, following the online circulation of claims involving $110 million in potential losses. The company says the figure is an initial estimate tied to ongoing investigations, not confirmed embezzlement. 📌 The sources added that the restructuring transfers transport and fleet-tracking oversight to the ministry, potentially strengthening monitoring of fuel shipments and reducing risks of smuggling and cargo diversion. 📌 It also establishes a new Shared Services Department incorporating Technical Services and Machinery. 📌 No official statement has linked the restructuring directly to the ongoing contract investigations.

I couldn't agree more. Israel's Syria policy is a strategic failure. The expression I love to use describing this government policy is "when you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Netanyahu thinks that for every problem the solution is military force, where in this specific situation, diplomacy could have achieved so much more.
In early 2025, Syria was discussing normalization with Israel. Today, Syrians are protesting against it over Netanyahu’s policies. Netanyahu is turning a historic opportunity for peace into a new source of hostility—and potential partners into adversaries.

The fact that no one on the American side wanted to claim "credit" for turning it off meant it was always going to be restored. But the damage done is unforgivable and I hope this doesn't mean the end of formal inquiries into what happened.
Monitoring systems of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence have officially confirmed the restoration of Starlink/Starshield operational speeds, with connectivity remaining stable at speeds exceeding 400 kph. We are grateful to everyone who helped restore the service and for your important contribution to saving Ukrainian lives. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence will continue monitoring performance, as reliable Starlink/Starshield connectivity plays a critical role in intercepting Russian drones and protecting Ukrainian lives.

Both my parents went to Laique, so we grew up hearing about its storied history and the type of thought and diversity the school’s attendees represented. After Assad’s fall, that was something we wished we would see revived and strengthened — not suppressed.
A century ago, a French school in Damascus bet on nonconfessional, coeducational, bilingual learning. Its recent decision to separate boys and girls has Syrians asking what that wager still means. By historian @smoubayed in @newlinesmag. newlinesmag.com/essays/a-cha…

Don't understand the Israeli government's policy towards Syria since December 2024. Seemed incredibly clumsy and counterproductive.
In early 2025, Syria was discussing normalization with Israel. Today, Syrians are protesting against it over Netanyahu’s policies. Netanyahu is turning a historic opportunity for peace into a new source of hostility—and potential partners into adversaries.

I said it in December 2024, Israelis were going to miss a once in two-generation opportunity and create a self-fulfilling prophecy. And now here we are. Never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Witkoff and Kushner want to “expand the problem” beyond Ukraine to encompass European security architecture (a core demand of Putin) while Rubio tries to shrink it to not even Ukraine but a piece of Ukrainian territory.
2026 Marco Rubio claims Russia's war on Ukraine is "about Donbas"; perhaps 2022 Marco Rubio could enlighten him:
