A couple of days ago, I did a quick explainer on Claude’s new watermarking process and implementation. Since it’s such a popular topic and sparked such a lively discussion, I thought it might be interesting to go into a bit more detail when explaining how it works.
So, instead of the usual text article, I recorded a little lecture on the topic (to change it up a bit from my usual articles).
It ended up a bit longer than intended, but I hope it clarifies a lot of things:
- Sampling the next token in an LLM and pseudorandom number generators
- How watermarking relates to the regular LLM sampling process
- Whether watermarking makes text "worse"
- How to remove watermarks
- Tournament sampling
- How new text is checked for watermarks without rerunning the LLM
I ended up with ~50 slides, but I hope that these explain it well, though! Happy watching!

We found a way to extract hidden reasoning of frontier models using a vulnerability in the APIs of every frontier AI company.
We verified that our reasoning token count matches billed API thinking tokens 1:1 for most of the prompts we queried.

Verification of presence of Abdulrahim Dagalo, the deputy commander of the RSF and brother of Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, in El Fasher on 26 October.
This shows that senior commanders were present while the horrific events occurred in El Fasher. 👇
Verified footage confirmed that the RSF entered the SAF 6thinfantry division HQ in El Fasher on 26 October and occupied the airport on 27 October.

Very insightful and eye-opening piece by Bashir Mohammed @bashir_caato Somalia has turned into a gangster’s playground.
A senior manager at Bosaso’s port revealed for the first time to MEE that, for the past two years, the United Arab Emirates has funnelled over 500,000 containers marked as hazardous through Bosaso.
Unlike standard cargo, which is documented with a letter of origin and destination, these Emirati shipments have no description of their contents. The port manager said that the logistics operations are shrouded in secrecy: upon arrival, the containers are swiftly transferred to the airport and loaded onto standby aircraft.
Security for these shipments is exceptionally tight, MEE’s sources in Bosaso said. When a ship docks, PMPF forces are deployed to cordon off the port and prevent filming. Only personnel on duty are granted access, and they are explicitly warned against recording anything during the offloading and transit process.

Another look on how the UAE supply the RSF Militia, using charter Il-76 cargo planes registered abroad. Two planes here, one makes flights between Somalia & Libya, the other between UAE & Somalia.
This has been going on for years, the difference beeing that instead of Chad, Libya is now the main entry point for weapons for the militia.

My take on the UAE-backed slaughter now unfolding in Sudan, and the refusal of the US and others to call out the UAE for its role. This was preventable, but neither Biden nor Trump cared enough to try: nytimes.com/2025/10/30/opini… Thank God some members of Congress are speaking up.
