TODAY: Students at Hamilton High School in Phoenix joined students across the country who are walking out to demand justice for Jane Doe in the Cornell 7 case. Gender-based violence doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Under capitalism, women face a system that perpetuates inequality, exploitation, and violence, while institutions too often prioritize their own reputations and the protection of those in power over the safety and dignity of survivors. Fighting gender-based violence means fighting for a society where survivors are heard, where perpetrators are held accountable and where women have the economic security, housing, healthcare and resources necessary to live free from violence. Socialism is part of that fight! We need a society that puts people's lives and well-being before profit, that confronts the material conditions enabling abuse and that guarantees liberation and dignity for all women. The students of Hamilton High School and across the country are showing us that young people are not waiting for change. They are organizing and demanding it!
