Plato's Republic contains an argument most people who cite it have never actually engaged with. Thrasymachus says justice is whatever benefits the stronger party. The powerful define what is right, and they define it in their favor. This is not cynicism in Plato's text. It is presented as the position to be defeated. Plato spends the rest of the Republic trying to defeat it. I think most honest readers find his counter-arguments less convincing than Thrasymachus. Not because Thrasymachus is right in a moral sense. But because his descriptive claim holds up remarkably well as a sociological observation. Legal systems, moral norms, institutional structures do tend to reflect the interests of the groups powerful enough to construct and maintain them. Machiavelli read Plato and essentially said yes, Thrasymachus is describing reality accurately. The question is not whether this is true. The question is what the man who understands it does with the knowledge. Does he use it to exploit? To protect himself? To build more durable systems? The answer separates the cynics from the strategists. Understanding how power actually works is not the same as endorsing it. It is the prerequisite for doing anything meaningful inside it.

Democracy does not deliver. Democracy sucks.....
This is what to expect for the next two years. This is why I say that the system is destined for failure. As long as there are no term limits, there is nobody on either side who will ever address the long-term.

I am pro-life from conception to natural death. That's why I support Medicare for All, universal childcare, housing, and free education. If you call women whores & oppose the very policies that help families thrive, you're not pro-life. You're pro-forced birth

For spinoza, activity (natura naturans) is tied to both attributes, not just to the intellect. Modes are passive by nature; being determinate multiplicities they can only ever be partially active. Thinking natura naturans = intellect as curley seems to is a form of idealism.

Hate when a fundamental principle gets identified with one thing so strongly that people refuse to entertain that it really is fundamental. Yes there is linguistic evolution. Yes porn addiction is real. Evolution is not exclusive to life and addiction is not exclusive to drugs.

A sharp analysis of the problem with democracy from a Republican standpoint. This used to be common knowledge - in fact, the founding fathers made this very argument when they organized the Republic the way they did - but now populism is the predominant form of politics.

🚨 BOMBA NO BOLSONARISMO PARAGUAIO!

I am very fascinated about the Somalis. They don’t have that ‘keep your head down and just work’ mentality most African immigrant groups have. Somehow they’ve been able to turn community solidarity into political engagement

This is not true. Cardinal Ratzinger (future Pope Benedict XVI) explicitly states that one can vote for a candidate who supports abortion if there is proportionate reason. Obviously, you cannot vote for someone BECAUSE they support abortion, but you can vote for them despite the fact that they support it. This is because one would only be culpable for remote material cooperation with evil which Cardinal Ratzinger says “can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reason”. Therefore, it is up to the individual to weigh whether or not there is proportionate to vote for a candidate who supports abortion. If one thinks that pointless wars, not placing America first, complacency with abortion, and other modern Republican positions proportionately outweigh the evil from voting Democrat, then under prayer, they may vote Democrat. You cannot condemn someone to Hell based solely off of the fact that they voted blue. If you think that, then you have no right to lecture people on Catholic teaching.
According to Pope Benedict XVI, Nick Fuentes is no longer in good standing to receive the Holy Eucharist. He is now guilty of formal cooperation with the evil of abortion and may not present himself for Communion at any Catholic mass.
