With the season in full swing, here's a thread highlighting some of the tools available for baseball analysis: 1/8 The baseballr package for #rstats: billpetti.github.io/baseball…. Includes functions for acquiring MLB, MiLB, and NCAA data, calculating statistics, and more.

Two fun college baseball '21 debuts: @FAUBaseball freshman Caleb Pendleton hits 2 grand slams in same inning (first collegiate ABs), and sophomore Logan Cerny of @TroyTrojansBSB goes 5-5, with 2 2B and 3 HRs in his first game of the season

Tried something a little different. Created a code-through video of lesser known functions in baseballr, specifically functions that allow you to interact with the MLB Stats API. Not winning any awards for production values, but hopefully helpful #rstats youtu.be/R_fdMGz7mZg

Statheads, check your inboxes! Subscribe here to be informed: stathead.com/?utm_medium=soc… Do you ever feel like it's hard to keep up with everything going on in baseball and you need a quick summary? We've made one for you. View Today's issue: mailchi.mp/a1542984ff03/base…
Both of these are now available. Player urls and ids are now returned by ncaa_scrape. You can also get player_id with get_ncaa_baseball_roster. The get_ncaa_game_logs function now has an argument, span, that can bet set to 'career' to grab a player's career stats.

Would it be possible to include player IDs so you could do something like this: ncaa_scrape(736, 2020, "pitching") %>% filter(player_id == 2309761) Or maybe scrape career data for specific players from stats.ncaa.org/player/index?

Same data, but this time based on years on the ballot
Here's an animation of MLB Hall of Fame ballot percentage by player, by year since 1936. Data via @baseball_ref. Players in orange were voted in by the writers. Interesting to see the build in the early days with the '39-'47 & '57-'61 gulfs and the rise of 1st ballot elections .

I put together a walk through for creating your own event and roster database using baseballr, PostgreSQL, and #rstats. Grab all years in about 20 minutes. billpetti.github.io/2019-08-…

Data for this game will be available tomorrow
Replying to @JasonBernard_
@JasonBernard_ @tangotiger Looks like the site is missing data from the BAL/LAA game last night?
Saw some discussion a while back about first pitch swing rates. Using @Retrosheet pitch sequence data, it looks like rates peaked in 1988 and 2001, hit a low point 2010, and have been rising every since

Mookie Betts spray chart before/after I tweeted he wasn't pulling the ball enough in the air on April 18th. 🧐 cc: @BillPetti @baseball_tools (xitter.cf/recspecs730/status/111…)
Obviously still early, but seems like Mookie Betts isn't pulling fly balls like he did last year. Majority of balls he has pulled this year have been on ground. Data courtesy @statcast via #baseballr (@BillPetti) cc: @redsoxstats
