Today in Bath I joined a peaceful march for the thousands of lives lost in the Israel-Palestine conflict. We need an immediate bilateral ceasefire now to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, get the hostages out, and open the door to a two-state solution and a lasting peace

🔑 Nakba March & Rally 🔑 🗓️ Saturday, May 11, 2024 🕛 12 noon 📍 Kingston Parade, #Bath BA1 1 LT (South Side of Abby) This Saturday, let's stand in solidarity with Palestinians. Bring keys 🔑 to symbolise their longing for home, as many polish theirs on Nakba day, a day of deep significance. #Nakba means 'catastrophe' in Arabic. It commemorates the forced expulsion of over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, leading to the establishment of Israel. Let's honor 76 years of resilience and demand an end to occupation and oppression. All welcome. Bring flags 🇵🇸🪧🔑 and keffiyehs. Follow & subscribe to stay informed: @bathcampaigns bathcampaigns.org.uk/ #StopArmingIsrael #FreePalestine

Watch @schneiderhome on @TalkTV make the case for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, David Mencer, from Labour Friends of Israel, goes BESERK saying he supports Hamas. Who do you think makes more sense here? And then ask who is more central in making Labour policy right now. Frightening.

Charlotte Church uplifted spirits and hearts 💕 in #Bath today by sharing an inspiring excerpt from a letter Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes wrote to a young activist, that encapsulates the essence of relentless perseverance and determination required for dramatic change. ‘What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take everyone on Earth to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.’ Charlotte then taught us a little song 🎶 before we set off on the #SilenceIsViolence march for Palestine. 🕊️ 🇵🇸 #CeasefireNOW Video credit @AlfUpATree 🙏

Despite the wind and rain, dozens of Bathonians turned out to send a resounding message to #Bath & NES Councillors: #SilenceIsViolence, in protest at their refusal to allow debate or a vote on the Green Party’s Ceasefire Motion. The packed viewing gallery in the Council chamber bore witness to six fellow constituents delivering compelling speeches during last night's full council meeting. Video clips of these impactful speeches can be found in the thread below. #FreePalestine 🕊️🇵🇸 #CeasefireNOW @CllrKevinGuy @BNESLabourGroup @bathnesld @BathCA @clrjoannawright @BathNESGreens @john_wimperis @bathlive
Speaking at @bathnes full Council meeting last night, local constituent, Emma Owens had a stern warning for #Bath & NES politicians on the “wrong side of history”, choosing to “play it safe” and “block debate” on the Green Party’s Peace Motion on a Gaza ceasefire. She talked about the immorality of standing by “as people are killed on an industrial scale, are starved or forcibly displaced” “Your children, your grandchildren will want to know, where were you? What did you do when the Palestinian People were being so cruelly exterminated? If you are wise, you will prepare your answer now!” @CllrKevinGuy @BNESLabourGroup @bathnesld @BathCA @clrjoannawright @BathNESGreens @john_wimperis @bathlive #FreePalestine 🕊️🇵🇸

Constituent Mohammed Alruzzi told Bath & NES Cllrs, 'Justice is not passive. It requires action, courage, and willingness to stand up for what is right even when it is difficult.' Full speech 🎤 “Councillors and residents of Bath, I stand before you today after 160 days of relentless bombardment of Gaza, the city where I come from, to question the council’s silence and inaction. The International Court of Justice has considered the legal case brought forth by South Africa against Israel, recognising the possibility of genocidal acts. Yet, despite this and the marches organised by the residents of this city calling for peace and justice, you haven’t demanded a ceasefire. How many more lives must be lost before we utter the words ceasefire? Silence in the face of violence is complicity… there’s a name for it. Your inaction speaks volumes, including to our local community in Bath. The residents in Bath who have tirelessly advocated for a ceasefire must feel a profound sense of defeat and alienation from democratic processes they believe in. Their voices echoing cries for humanity and justice seem to have fallen on deaf ears. The repercussions of silence extend beyond the damage caused in Gaza; they seep into the fabric of our city, eroding the trust and social cohesion that bind us. When you neglect the call for a ceasefire, you are not only turning away from the suffering of people in Gaza, but you are also turning away from the values that we claim to uphold too. You are telling our citizens and residents that efforts for peace and justice are futile and their voices do not matter. This council has a responsibility. It has the responsibility to reflect the conscience of our community. It should represent us. By abstaining from calling for a ceasefire, we are not only failing the people in Gaza, where the death toll includes a significant number of children and women, but we are also failing our own principles and values of human life. How can we strengthen our commitment to social justice and ensure that we live in peace with ourselves first and with the values that we cherish? It starts with recognising that justice is not passive. It requires action, courage, and willingness to stand up for what is right even when it is difficult. I urge this council to take a definitive stand for justice. Call for a ceasefire in Gaza and show unwavering support for the protection of human life and dignity. Be the leaders who choose to speak up, to act, and contribute positively to the social cohesion aligning your actions with the values of justice and humanity that define us. Thank you." #FreePalestine 🕊️🇵🇸 #CeasefireNOW #SilenceIsViolence @CllrKevinGuy @BNESLabourGroup @bathnesld @BathCA @clrjoannawright @BathNESGreens @john_wimperis @bathlive

Bath constituent, Marie Duffy addressing the full Council meeting last night: “You could have raised your voice for Palestine, but you chose not to!” “The statement issued by Bath Council regarding the ceasefire fell way short of what other councils have done. There are no actions linked to it. "It was stated that the council is keenly aware of the impact on local individuals and communities and will listen to what they have to say, which is not true! "You had the opportunity to use your voices and join the global call for a ceasefire and rejected it. By removing our democratic right to debate on the ceasefire, you have effectively silenced the residents of Bath.” #FreePalestine 🕊️🇵🇸 #CeasefireNOW #SilenceIsViolence @CllrKevinGuy @BNESLabourGroup @bathnesld @BathCA @clrjoannawright @BathNESGreens @john_wimperis @bathlive

‼️Crucial Gaza Rally‼️ 📢 🗓️ Saturday, 16 March 2024 🕛 12pm 📍Kingston Parade, South Side of #Bath Abbey, BA1 1LT Despite the dire situation in Gaza, Bath & NES Council is refusing to discuss or permit a vote on a ceasefire motion, even though many other councils have, and the majority of UK population wanting an immediate ceasefire. Their inaction shows contempt for constituents who elected them and whose mental health is suffering because of political inaction in the face of a genocide. Please join us on Saturday and demand accountability from these local politicians banning discussion 🤐 of this critical humanitarian issue. #CeasefireNow 🕊️ #SilenceIsViolence #GazaCrisis @CllrKevinGuy @PSCupdates @bathnes @john_wimperis

THREAD As the @rcgp meets in London today to address growing concerns regarding Physician Associates, members of the public organised by @BathCampaigns staged a protest outside the RUH in Bath, demanding their right to see a real doctor. I was joined by Anna Beria, one of my fellow Public Governors for @RUHBath NHS Foundation Trust, and we were able to assure them that the Council of Governors (who represent the public and hold the Trust Board to account) have submitted a range of comprehensive assurance questions to the Trust Board in connection with PAs (attached in thread below). #AskForADoctor #NoDoctorSubstitutes

“It’s easier to say the number 13,000 over and over again, but to look at these and think that means 13,000 bodies ..
