This morning, guests of the @WWIImuseum could join an optional walking tour of “Easy Company in Eindhoven”, hosted by not one but both guides Edwin & Joris (@battlefieldexpl). Many guests joined the tour, seeing photos and hearing anecdotes on the locations where it all happened.

Heeswijk Castle, where 1/501 PIR mistakenly landed during Op Market. One man landing in the moat and nearly drowning, was father Sampson aka the Parachuting Padre. He also landed in water on D-Day. Sampson was captured at Bastogne in Dec 1944, survived the war, served in Korea and eventually became Chief of Chaplains US Army. Visited last Monday on a Market Garden Highlights Tour with US clients we did on behalf of @battlefieldexpl

Let’s start digging! The German artillery battery near Katwijk (Heeres-Küsten Batterie Katwijk-Neu) consisted of three formidable 688 casemates for 17 cm guns. It was built in 1944. Sadly the bunkers started to subside and in 1964 they were toppled into large pits and covered. – at Leidschendam-Voorburg, Nederland
