Twenty three pilot whales have been discovered on the shoreline in Sanday today (Sunday 10th August). The mammals are all dead and appear to have been on Roo beach, just along from Whitemill bay, for several days. Thanks to David Walker in Sanday for the image. #Orkney

Vodaphone customers appear to be worst affected by the damage to the subsea communications cable near Orkney. We have spoken to several angry @VodafoneUK users who fear they may be offline for more than a week. We’ve tried to contact the company but received no acknowledgment.
From @VodafoneUK “The recent damage to the SHEFA-2 subsea cable has affected broadband services across multiple providers, including Vodafone. Openreach have assured us they are working hard to resolve the issue as soon as possible and a cable repair vessel has been deployed.“
The @VodafoneUK statement continued “We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”
