Chiricahua National Monument, Arizona, is now Chiricahua National Park. It is an amazing place deserving of the elevated status. I made this 3D map of the park some years ago.

Got curious how @UNRLakeTahoe's new sensor network works, so I built something to find out ๐ŸŒŠ secchi: a free, open dashboard of TEON's lake, forest & stream sensors. Thanks @unevadareno! brooksgroves.com/secchi/ #LakeTahoe #OpenData #GIS #DataViz #Limnology #Python #Tahoe

Great podcast, as usual. I was just talking to some people about just this topic today. Thanks again @MapScaping ... always learning!
This MapScaping podcast episode features @utahgeological team. They share how they moved from a traditional ArcGIS Server setup toward a cloud-native approach leading to them turning off two servers & saving around $25K/yr mapscaping.com/podcast/cloudโ€ฆ

Old project, new tools. I pulled Project Kiva off the shelf and rebuilt it as a 10-site lidar atlas, from Chaco Canyon to Cahokia. Here's Serpent Mound, Ohio, rendered with forge3d by @milos_gis ๐Ÿ brooksgroves.com/project-kivโ€ฆ #lidar #archaeology #forge3d #GIS

Milos dropped forge3d 1.40.1 yesterday with camera flythroughs, so naturally I flew it through Yosemite Valley ๐Ÿ”๏ธ Half Dome's face โ†’ down the valley past El Cap โ†’ back to Half Dome, on a June evening. All USGS lidar, laptop render. @milos_agathon #forge3d #Yosemite #gischat

Nothing here was filmed: lidar for the shape, aerial photos for the color, the GPU for the evening sun. Write-up, plus what's real and what's painted ๐Ÿ‘‡ brooksgroves.com/blog/yosemiโ€ฆ

Washington's summer of smoke, hour by hour. 7 weeks of wildfire smoke and fire, Jul 25โ€“Sep 10, 2026, on 3D terrain. Plumes stream off the Okanogan fires, the Spokane Complex erupts Aug 1, and Seattle mostly stays clear. Built with forge3d by @milos_gis brooksgroves.com/blog/wa-smoโ€ฆ

The Spokane Complex burned nearly 10,000 acres, forced 65,000 evacuations and destroyed 830+ homes. Spokane went 11 straight days with air failing federal standards. Smoke: NOAA HRRR-Smoke. Fire: NASA VIIRS. Perimeters: NIFC. Thinking of everyone still rebuilding.

Sea-Tac's all-time record going in: 103ยฐF. Sunday: 104. Monday: 108. A station in the Olympic rain forest near Forks hit 118 and tied the state record. Lytton, B.C. hit 121. The next day the village burned. ๐Ÿฅต

This is such a cool map, well hot map I guess. Thanks again @milos_gis for sharing. I hope to get back into this Forge3D package when I have some open academic time ... I have a few ideas!
August was hot in Europe. I mapped temperature anomaly for every day of the 8th month

Hold onto your hats and sunglassesโ€”and your trash! Today's Yellowstone Caldera Chronicles details the items that Yellowstone National Parkโ€™s Geology team has collected so far this season from the parkโ€™s hydrothermal areas. There are some pretty interesting finds... ow.ly/vHj350ZM6G8 ๐Ÿ“ท1: Hats collected by the Yellowstone National Park Geology Team and other park staff from hydrothermal areas during the summer 2026 season (Geology Team truck for scale). ๐Ÿ“ท2: Coins, bills, and jewelry collected by the Yellowstone National Park Geology Team from hydrothermal areas during the summer season in 2026. ๐Ÿ“ท3: Frequent finds collected by the Yellowstone National Park Geology Team from hydrothermal areas during the summer season in 2026: camera lens covers and binocular parts, pens and pencils, sunglasses, hair accessories, hotel keys, and more! ๐Ÿ“ท4: More bizarre Yellowstone National Park Geology Team finds from hydrothermal areas during the 2026 summer seasonโ€”including golf tees, fortune cookie fortunes, AirPods, rubber ducks, and Invisalign retainers! GeoLibre v3.0.0 is here! GeoLibre is a free and open-source, lightweight, cloud-native GIS platform for visualizing, exploring, and analyzing geospatial data. It runs everywhere you do, in the web browser, on the desktop, on mobile, and inside Jupyter notebooks, all while keeping your data local and private. This release landed 95 pull requests from 11 contributors, and 5 people made their first contribution to GeoLibre. Thank you to everyone who filed an issue, reviewed a change, or sent a patch. Our first major release makes the Cesium 3D globe a full rendering engine for the whole workspace, brings time-dynamic CZML scenes and native KML to the globe, and lets you save your edits straight back to ArcGIS Feature Services. What's new in v3.0.0 - Cesium as your main map: switch the entire workspace between MapLibre 2D and Cesium 3D from the View menu, and the choice is saved with your project. - Nearly every layer on the globe: COGs, PMTiles, MBTiles, vector tiles, ArcGIS services, I3S scene layers, LiDAR point clouds, and Gaussian splats all render in 3D, with extruded polygons and true elevation for 3D vectors. - Dynamic 3D scenes: load CZML for orbits, trajectories, and moving objects that play along the globe clock, open KML and KMZ with their original styling, and add Cesium Ion assets such as OSM Buildings by id. - Your tools work in 3D too: screenshots, print layouts, video and camera tours, the Elevation Profile, and the Sun, Atmosphere, Flight Simulator, and weather plugins. - ArcGIS write-back: edit a Feature Service layer in GeoLibre and save additions, changes, and deletions back to the service. - Editable SVG print layouts: export a layout and fine-tune the title, legend, and scale bar in Inkscape or Illustrator. - Smarter rasters and new data sources: viewport-based raster stretch, persistent layer filters from Select by Expression, a Portolan catalog browser, OGC CSW catalog search, and a USGS NLDI panel for tracing river networks. Try it out - Launch GeoLibre Web: web.geolibre.app - GitHub: github.com/opengeos/GeoLibre - Documentation: geolibre.app - Release notes: github.com/opengeos/GeoLibreโ€ฆ #GIS #Geospatial #OpenSource #CesiumJS #3DMapping #MapLibre #GeoLibre
