A look ahead to what is on Monday’s County Commission agenda.
The proposal to exit the lawsuit over the state takeover of MSCS’ elected board didn’t have enough votes in committee last week. The commission also votes on a new data center moratorium in the unincorporated county. Read more: dailymemphian.com/section/me… ✍️ Story by @bdriesdm 📷 Mark Weber / The Daily Memphian file

When asked why the Justice Department filed the Alaska election lawsuit 11 days before the midterms, Attorney General Todd Blanche says “we want a procedure in place that if there is litigation, there may not be, but if there is litigation brought by others after the election because of possible voter confusion, that the ballots are kept in a way that the Alaska state election system can determine who the accurate winner is, not the federal government.” “Not President Trump, not me, but the Alaska system as the law is required — as the law is set out for it to do,” he says.

House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) says ousting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is “my priority number one if we retake the majority.” “Our service members actually deserve competent, serious, real leadership that will protect them and do the right thing. And they currently don't have that,” he says.

CBS News’ latest Battleground Tracker estimates the Democratic Party is on pace to take control of the House in the midterm elections, but “that does not describe a giant blue wave,” Elections and Surveys Executive Director Anthony Salvanto reports. “Turnout is a big factor. It does favor Democrats. Right now, more Democrats tell us that they are definitely going to vote or already have than Republicans do,” he says. “They’re just planning to stay home right now. If they get activated or motivated, then yeah, this thing could shift or change a little.”

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) says Republicans are “going to have significant headwinds” because of the Medicaid cuts in the government spending bill that passed Congress, and “it’s really a 10-year impact if you take a look at the original bill,” he adds. “I believe it's going to be very, very challenging,” he says. “We've got our work cut out for us because some of those impacts could also feed right into the 2028 election.”

As concerns about Tennessee voting machines have gone viral in recent days, U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen and other local Democratic leaders urged Memphians to vote — and check their ballots. Cohen, Memphis’ outgoing Democratic congressman who has represented Tennessee’s 9th Congressional district for almost two decades, held a news conference today to push for Democratic turnout. He also addressed the voting machines, suggesting that voters can request a paper ballot. dailymemphian.com/section/me… ✍️@bdriesdm and Samuel Hardiman 📷Mark Weber / The Daily Memphian

Bob Uecker's Harry Doyle calls from "Major League" became part of baseball movie history. The famous misses, deadpan reactions and booth one-liners worked because Uecker already knew exactly how a baseball broadcast was supposed to sound. He could parody an announcer without making the character feel fake. That's why the clips still work even for people who have heard the real Uecker call games for decades.
