It's been a busy few days/weeks/months modelling steps 2, 3 and 4 of the #roadmap out of lockdown in England, with my #ateam @_nickdavies @markjit and John Edmunds. A 🧵 on our latest work looking at #step4 🪜👩‍💻 and a #photodump of some nice things I saw along the way

I wrote a short thread on being a racial minority within math academia. I didn’t propose any changes to the status quo or solutions. Just pointed out why I think race is an issue in the context of my experiences. Here are some of the EXTREMELY racist responses I got back. 👇🏾

If you guys aren’t aware of the existence of this fish, you are now. Monocentris, aka the pineapple or pinecone fish. These amazing things have bioluminescent photophores on their cheeks that house symbiotic bacteria, and are some of the few animals capable of emitting red light.

This is unholy nonsense of the highest order: - n=92 - over a dozen uncontrolled t-tests - NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLACEBO AND CONTROL - headline findings based on sub-group analyses - fish oil does bugger all for ADHD

I'm gonna say it louder for the folks in the back. INDEPENDENCE IS A LEARNED SKILL. Been doing this for almost 10 yrs. My sweet, future undergrad, I don't expect you to be independent. I expect you to try and ask questions and learn what independence is when you have skillzz

WHAT A GORGEOUS GIANT ANTEATER 😍 Definitely the best camera trap record I've got so far!! When camera traps are not being used to monitor Helmeted Manakin's nests, I install them in tracks around my fieldwork area to better know the residents around!

Here’s some footage I took of the White Witch Moth— widest insect wingspan in the world. It is ~ 1 ft (30cm) wingtip to wingtip! As far as I know there isn’t other footage out there of them flying slow motion in their natural habitat.
