According to the official story, this giant tricycle was commissioned in 1896 by the Boston Woven Hose and Rubber Company. The stated purpose was a traveling marketing campaign to promote the company's "VIM" brand of pneumatic (air-filled) tires. In the late 19th century, it was displayed primarily at parades and cycling events across New England towns, such as Nashua and Concord, New Hampshire. The rear tire stood 11 feet tall and was 18 inches thick, with a total weight of 1,500 pounds. It took eight people to steer and pedal the tricycle. The mechanism featured a split drive system: four men sat on the left side to power the left wheel, while the other four sat on the right to power the right wheel. The structure was robust enough to carry several additional passengers or guests, in addition to the eight-person pedaling crew, during promotional parades. That is the story they tell, at least... But we know how things really work. A bicycle like that would require someone at least twice our size, or larger, and we can get an idea of ​​this by looking at photos of exceptionally tall people from the past.
