A Hunter Valley coal mine that this week secured the intervention of the #NSW premier @ChrisMinnsMP to allow a controversial expansion is targeting children in marketing materials spruiking coal. Its goal is to influence the school curriculum. smh.com.au/environment/clima…

This sort of nonsense has to stop. The @NewcastleJetsFC and every Jets supporter should be deeply embarrassed by the club’s behaviour. Don’t want journos writing about unpaid debts? Pay your bills. And a stronger, less invisible APL would tell the Jets to pull their head in.

in 1817, awaiting the arrival of a massive statue of Ramesses II (known in greek as Ozymandias) at British shores, Percy Shelley and Horace Smith proposed a duel, to see who could write a better sonnet inspired by the statue and an inscription. A generational mogging ensued.

Yup, I’m done. My reporting career has gone from telegrams to the age of AI. It will only pace up from here, but that’s for the next generation. And they’re committed and bright. Good luck. Farewell. smh.com.au/national/tears-tr…

By far the most prominent and tragic victim of Australia’s declining snow seasons is snow gums. My book on their demise, and the people trying to stop it, is out next week. It’s an occasionally bleak but surprisingly upbeat story which I co-wrote with a woman half my age. Enjoy!
Perisher closes today, ending IMO the worst Aus snow season in memory While the peak depth at Spencers Ck just beat the worst season, 2006, by 9cm This season saw no Spencers Ck snow before end of Sept for first time 200m below Spencers at Deep Creek, almost no snow all season

More realistic AI doom scenario: You wake up, and can't log in to any of your devices or accounts. "Hmm, that's weird..." The Internet doesn't work. For anyone. Nothing loads. No passwords work. This does not improve, for several days. Then weeks. What happens next?
